Trigger warning: alcohol consumption and drunk behaviour.
Music by Lenny Kravitz: Are You Gonna Go My Way?
Set at the end of Harry Potter's fifth year...
"Tonight will be a success." You assure yourself whilst smoothing down your clothes. Earlier today, all students caught the train back to Platform 9 and ¾'s for the summer holidays, leaving only a few of the teaching staff, including Severus and yourself, behind. As a reward for the pair of you putting up with Dolores Umbridge, you had decided that you would go to Severus' living quarters in the castle, accompanied with all the alcohol that you could obtain, and celebrate her departure. Severus knew of your plans, since you had already asked him if he was up for a fun night, and it was most definitely a surprise for you when he said "yes".
Three hours later...
Here is a rundown on the current moment. The lights are down low, almost creating a nightclub-like atmosphere. There are empty bottles on the kitchenette counter. The song 'Are You Gonna Go My Way?' is playing in the background, quite loudly in fact, and you can be seen pulling Severus up off the sofa and onto his feet so he can dance with you. You had been gyrating to the previous songs but when Lenny Kravitz came on, there was no holding you back. Once Severus was on his feet, you begun to rock out, air guitar and all. Soon after, like a gawky teenager at prom, the potions professor eventually begins to let the alcohol poison his serious manner, and moves with you.
Song after song, you continue to move to the rhythm, occasionally grabbing Severus' hand to stop him from sitting down and leaving you to dance alone. One time however, when Severus is about to leave you, you attempt to grab his hand, but he gets to your other hand first, pulling you down onto the sofa with him. Laughter erupts from your mouth as you take in the situation. It is so infectious that even Severus begins to chuckle loudly, so much that you can feel his chest vibrating from the laughter underneath you.
"This is so much fun! We should dance more often, don't-you-think?" You say, noticing that you had started to slur. Shaking his head slightly, with a smirk upon his lips, he replies "What I think... Is that we are both too old for this", causing you to push his arm in a playful manner. "You can never be too old to dance Severus! Just because I am certainly showing you up with my amazing dance moves." You say, wriggling around whilst shaking imaginary maracas to the remaining few seconds of Wonderwall by Oasis.
"Have you had more to drink than me?" Severus enquires but is quickly cut off by your exclamation of "COTTON EYE JOE!!" Suddenly, you lunge off the sofa, pulling Severus up off the sofa again, this time so you could link arms with him and skip around. You release Severus' arm early so he can continue to relax on the couch as you return to dancing in circles.
Not long after, the spinning becomes too much, and you also start to feel rather thirsty. So, you make your way over to the kitchenette. However, the alcohol affects your ability to walk in a straight line. Before you can stop yourself, you stagger face first into the doorframe. Without warning, your back quickly hits the floor and the word "ouch" feebly leaves your lips. Severus, hearing the kerfuffle, dashes to your side, and then he moves to the other side, and then back round to where he was before. "Why do you keep moving? I thought I was the one who had lost their balance haha." "I am not moving (y/n)." With concern lacing his features, Severus carefully picks you up and sits you down on the sofa, muttering "wait here" before disappearing into the kitchenette.
Moments later, Severus returns with a big glass of water and also a small vial of this peach-coloured concoction. "Ooooooo what's that?" "It's a 'sober-me-up potion' and pain relief medicine." "Very funny." You murmur, unable to hide the fact that you did find it amusing because you are smiling like a love-struck puppy at his sarcasm. Following the medicine, you gulp down some of the water before thanking him.
"Do you wish for me to kiss you better?" A still tipsy potions professor asks as he sits himself down beside you. "You are never going to let me forget that, are you?" You cringe, yet still remembering how the awkwardness soon turned into bliss. Even though Severus was not being serious, you decide that two can play at this game, and, changing the tone of your voice to sound more angelic, you state: "My lips are sore from hitting the doorframe, and the pain relief is not working fast enough, so it would help if you kissed me better." Batting your eyelids seductively and keeping your face dead serious, you stare into Severus' eyes before he leans in and kisses you softly. "Better?" "No, I am still in pain." You mock. Teasingly, you add, "in fact, most of my body hit the frame until I fell back...", winking at the potions professor, only to see him smile in disbelief whilst holding his head in his left hand. "Remind me, how old are you?" Sighing, you reply: "Old enough to know better."
An hour of sitting in each other's company passes. Growing tired, you suggest taking a midnight stroll to the Astronomy Tower for one last time before you leave. Closing the door behind you, you magic up some dainty floating candles to light the way, along with small silver trays to float underneath, catching any melted wax. Holding hands, you walk side by side, surrounded by candlelight, towards the tower. Once out of the dungeons, you follow the open corridor which surrounds the courtyard. Surprisingly, you can hear wind howling outside, shouting through the darkness and suddenly blowing out the candles surrounding you both. "So much for trying to be romantic." You say disappointedly. In response to the wind, Severus casts the lumos spell purely so you can both see where you are going.
When you reach the astronomy tower, you are kind of disheartened by the cloudy sky, obscuring any sign of the moon and stars, but also by the rain which was being thrown into the tower with such brutal force. Yet again, your hopes of star-gazing with Severus have been crushed by the dreary weather. From what you could make out through the darkness and the rain, Severus was about to cast a spell which would deflect the rain from pouring in. But the astronomer within you steps forward, embracing the rain, and peers out into the darkness. At first, Severus is reluctant to join you, but when you hold out your hand, he steps forward and takes it in his own.
Hi guys! I am currently half way through my revision-filled holidays so I thought I could spare some time to write one last one-shot before exams. The next time I update will definitely be late June/early July though due to exams so sorry for the delay! :(
This one purposefully does not have much action going on as it is meant to be a bit of a light-hearted break from the few I posted before and also the few I will post after this.
Hope you are all having a wonderful Easter break! ^-^
