Set during the winter of Harry Potter's sixth year at Hogwarts...
December's dew lies upon the grounds at Hogwarts. Icicles hang steadily from the bricks' enchanted ledges. Cold wisps ripple about the air, between the trees, and through your window. You had left your window open ajar since realising how stifling your bedroom was. However, as dark clouds begin to brew in the night sky, you close the narrow window, and return to your writing desk, as you continue to wait for him.
In the adjoining room, you hear the brief sound of your ornaments and keepsakes, rattling against the shelves on which they sit firmly. They have been disturbed by the entrance of him, apparating into your quarters.
"You know there are strict rules on apparating in Hogwarts." You say trivially as you use the alohomora spell on your door.
Nonchalantly, he replies: "What Dumbledore doesn't know will not hurt him.", before pouring himself a cup of tea from a magical tea pot and bringing it into your room.
"We both know Dumbledore has a funny way of knowing everything though." You stand to meet him. "Why didn't you just walk here, save the risk?"
"Well it's lovely to see you too." He places the drink on the bedside table.
"Ugh, is it you again?" You mock Severus before pacing towards him and placing a delicate kiss on his lips.
Since your relationship with the potion's professor had to be kept secret, it had become a frequent occurrence that you would sleep in each other's rooms. (Who knows what the Dark Lord would do with such information.) Otherwise, days would pass where neither of you would have the opportunity to speak to one another.
This particular night however, one o'clock in the morning to be exact, Severus wakes up suddenly after his arm begins to burn unexpectedly. Waking you up amongst the confusion, you are about to ask what is happening until Severus, trying his best to hide the nervousness from his voice, states: "The Dark Lord is summoning me to him."
"At one in the morning?!"
"He never rests."
"Has he done this before, called you to him in the early hours?"
"Only once."
Not wanting to recall the events of what happened last time there was an early gathering, Severus changes his clothes with a simple spell before apparating out of the room, leaving you to hide in the darkness.
'But when will you return?' you sigh as you sit up in bed, alone.
At first, you grab a drink in an attempt to keep yourself from falling asleep, since you wanted to confirm that everything was alright when he returned. Half an hour later, you are left holding an empty mug. An hour later, you pace from wall to wall. Two hours later, you sit on the edge of your bed. Just as your doubts begin to snap at your heels, you climb into bed.
Before you know it, you hear your seven o'clock alarm echoing out from your bedside table. Since you could not recall the time you fell asleep, you hopefully look to the other side of the bed. Nonetheless, your hope quickly vanishes. He never returned.
During your morning routine, you launch into panic mode. He has been unaccounted for, for six hours.
It is only until you reach the Great Hall that you stop your plans for the search party. Sitting in his usual spot at the table, an expressionless potions professor gazes up from his toast to meet your relieved stare. Slightly filled with indignation, you glide forward towards the table to take your seat, which now happened to be by Dumbledore since some of the staff seem to be playing switcheroo this morning. 'He could have at least sent me a message to say he was okay', you openly think in case Severus is using legilimency.
