Description:
It's 1995, and Castiel's high school years are destined to be difficult: home-schooled until eighth grade, he is awkward, shy, and socially inept. The weird kid with the funny name would rather isolate himself and draw in his sketchbook than deal with the constant bullying he faces every day. Things only get worse in his junior year when he excels in home economics class, leading the captain of the baseball team, Alastair, to start taunting him for being gay. Then new student Dean Winchester arrives at Flour Bluff High School, sharing many of Castiel's classes. Castiel has seen his type before -- handsome, athletic, arrogant, and sure to be the most popular kid in school. But Castiel eventually learns that he and Dean have more in common than he thought, and they form and unlikely friendship.
Warnings: Bullying, homophobic language, some violence related to bullying.
Thoughts:
A very amazing story. I enjoyed reading it a second time in order to write a better review. The title is long but beautiful and the cover picture used is very nicely edited. Medium length chapters, each leaving you wanting more. The plot was spectacular and the time during which the story takes place made most of what had happened in it believable. I thought that added a special something to it.The villain(s), Alistair and his crew, made it all just the bit more exciting. They were perfectly placed throughout the story. Their bullying was a constant problem for Castiel, it really makes you realize how strong he is here. Reading the parts where Castiel was being bullied added a lot more to the story, and I must admit, so did the way the principal would "handle" it when he heard of it. In the end the problem is handled, the way it should've first been taken care of in the beginning. Seriously amazing work done by the author.
Nothing feels rushed between Dean and Cas, which makes this story even better. They don't just meet and start making out in the next class. It's the way any normal (not really a normal relationship in real life, but you get the gist) relationship would start out. Slowly but steady.
Going back to the way Cas and Dean's relationship progressed. I truly had no complaints. I thought the author captured each moment between them perfectly. The first time they see each other, the first time they actually talk, the moment in which Cas realized he liked Dean as more than a friend, it was all placed so beautifully throughout the chapters.
I must admit if I had to choose my favorite part in it, it has to be Dean and Cas' first kiss. The sexual tension was just so thick. It was amazing, perfect. You can feel how passionate the kiss actually is. It was something you know they both wanted.
I enjoyed reading In This Secluded Spot I Respond As I Wouldn't Dare Elsewhere. You could say it was magical. I suggest that you read, comment, and vote.
