Chapter 4: Hangouts

Our car stopped outside Jared's friend, Reece's house. It was a Saturday and it had been 5 more months since my decision to finally answer Vincent's calls. Saturdays and Sundays were still the same hangout days. And my conversations with Vincent had eased to a certain extent. He had apologized once again for his behavior. This time I forgave him, but not completely. I wasn't ready to get shitted on once again. He called me everyday. And whenever I hung up, he'd tell me that he'd call back the next day. Not that I expected him to keep to it, but he did.

The last time, we had a conversation it went on something like this:

V: How was today?

Me: Cool.

V: You still mad at me?

Me: I told you not to ask me that question.

V: Fine. But.. But.. I wanna know if you... Still think of me as a friend.

Me: Just as a friend

V: Okay

Me: I'm tired, I'll speak to you later.

V: Yeah, okay. I'll call again tomorrow.

It was not much. But come on! Trust me, we were making steady progress.

Snap back to the present..

I, Natalie, and Jared got out of Jared's car and walked up to his Reece's place. We entered Reece's huge living room, and sat down with the other guys- Heath, Kyle, Mason. A girl sat next to Heath, who was introduced to us as Gina, Heath's girlfriend.

"I have a number of spare bottles" Reece came out of his kitchen with a armful of soda and alcohol bottles ,"anything you guys wanna do with it is allowed", he ran his fingers through his smooth black hair. His brown eyes dancing in an apparent happiness.

Jared got up from his seat, where he was playing cards with the rest of the guys and walked up to Reece. Then he took a bottle from him.

"Spin the bottle challenge" he announced.

Instantly, as if on cue, everyone started cheering, shouting, screaming and chanting ,"Spin! Spin! Spin! Spin! Spin!"

Talk about crazy.

His eyes scanned through all of us, landing on Natalie, then a me. Then he grinned. Then his eyes shifted and landed on Kyle. Then he announced,"Kyle versus Reece"

Instantly, the color drained from Reece's face. He showered Jared with some beautiful cuss words and sat down on the ground opposite Kyle. Natalie, who sat at my side squeezed my hand. It was evident that even she was super excited about this.

"Just don't make us do something you'll regret later on" Reece narrowed his eyes at his best friend.

Kyle against Reece.

"If the bottle cap lands on Kyle, Jared pays 10 bucks to each of them and if not, Reece orders Pizza for all of us" Heath announces. Others shouted in approval. Jared scoffed. His trap was used against him.

Then they spun.

Instantly, around me, everyone else chanted ,"spin! Spin! Spin! Spin! Spin!"

A few seconds later, everyone stopped and sucked in a breath. So this was it.

Reece had to order Pizza.

If your wondering why that's such a daring task? You're speaking about the world's most starving mid 20 year olds of the century.

I grinned. Reece looked at me and then the bottle. Amusement studded on his face. Whatever the outcome was, Reece was ready to endure it. He attained pure amusement out of all of it anyway.

My phone buzzed in my pocket. I took it out and saw Vincent calling. I walked to the balcony and picked it up.

V: Hey

Me: Hey

V: You busy?

Me: Just at a friend's place

V: Oh. I had to tell you something

Me: Okay?

V: It's important.

Me: Shoot

V: You know how I'm not being able to find the right job for me?

Me: Yeah?

V: Well, I made a decision

Me: And?

V: I decided to go to Los Angeles to search for my job...

And metal stone dropped at the pit of my stomach, I remained silent.

V: ...and I was wondering..

Me: If you could stay at my place?

V: Yeah

My body screamed at me to say no. While my mind said otherwise. I was so perplexed at his words. Putting down my head on the railings I realized that I should've known that this was coming

Me: I.. I'll tell you later

V: Okay

Me: Bye

V: Bye. I'll call again tomorrow.

I cut the call. Holy fuck. Vincent would be here, in Los Angeles. I could've asked the guys to help me and take Vincent in. But we didn't know for how long. Most importantly, the guys already lived in pairs. Jared lived with Mason, Reece had Kyle accompanying him, Heath lived with two of his other friends. And before thinking much, I fished out his number and texted him my answer:

Yes.
