Chapter 19: The call

Message on my phone. I had a call on skype.

"Hello dear!" Her voice cracked and image flickered through the bad resolution on my laptop.

"Hey mom"

"How are you? It's been days since I last saw you!"

"Yeah mom"

Natalie who was in my room, came out,"Hello Mrs. Knight!"

"Hello Natalie dear" she smiled,"how are you?"

"I'm fine! How are you?" She came and sat on a chair next to me.

"Doing pretty well"

"How's dad?" I asked.

"He has so much free time now, after retirement that he doesn't know what to do with it."

"What's he doing?"

"In the back garden. His arthritis is a problem though."

"Sounds bad" Natalie said. She had grown up with her single mom, who was right then in Pennsylvania looking after what was left of her family heritage. To a girl like her, who had never known a father, my family was a second home. All of this owing to the extensive talking she'd do with my parents whenever I was on the phone with them.

"How was work today?" She asked both of us.

"good" we said in unison.

That's when, Jared and Vincent entered.

"Hey girls! Guess what we got??" Jared winked comically,"Wait, what're you watching?"

Before he could say anything else that might endanger his very reputation in front of my mom Natalie said,"It's Ashley's mom on Skype"

Both their mouths formed an 'O'.

"Who is that?" My mom asked.

"It's Jared..." Jared and Vincent instantly appeared right behind us.

"Hey Mrs. Knight" Vincent said.

"Isn't that.." My mom started.

"Yeah, and Vincent".

My mom's smile widened,"Ah! Vincent! How are you? When did you go to LA?"

"Just a few weeks before mrs. Knight"

"That is so nice to see you. You too Jared"

"By the way Ashley" she turned to me,"I was wondering, your dad and I could pay you a visit. We've been thinking about it for a while now. You know, for a week"

"For a week! That sounds amazing!" I smiled.

"Yes. I'll meet all of you there." She smiled.

"When are you guys coming?" I asked.

"the 14th"

I had two days time at hand.

"Okay! Sure!"

"bye dear! Your father's calling me. We'll speak again". She waved at me and my friends and then the screen blacked out.

My parents were coming for a week. That meant two things: One, Vincent had to go from here. Two, the others had to make sure there would be no alcohol parties while they were here.

It's okay! I can handle this.

"Jeez! Your mom's coming over" Jared broke into my reverie. "Yeah" I answered. "Wait, that means I need to shift somewhere for the week" Vincent asked. I gave him an apologetic look, which he returned with a pat on my shoulder."You can stay with me and Mason for the week" Jared offered.

"That's pretty good for a starter" Vincent said.

I agreed. "We got two days folks".

"uh.. Guys?" Vincent looked up from his phone,"I got a job audition!". His face lit up.

"When is it?"

"Tomorrow"

"Good." Jared said,"That gives you enough time to come with me to post the video." Saying, he dragged Vincent to his place.
