"S-SUGAAAA!" you burst out crying and hugged your friend tight.

It was a long time since you last saw him and now he had just come home after a year in the USA, where he went to as a university exchange student.

You knew him since you were at middle school and you always had a crush on him. But in a year things change.

The change in your life was a boy who had moved in the apartment next to you. He was chaotic, a walking disaster, let's say. When you first met him, he was carrying a huge stack of boxes. You happened to be lost in space for a furious phone call you had a while before with your parents, who'd never wanted you to leave home even though you were to attend university in Tokyo, so you didn't notice him and...

"LOOK OUT!"

SBAM!

You were lying on the ground and your phone was scattered a bit further. The boy, who had placed his boxes next to the door of the apartment next to yours, was helping you to stand up.

"HEY! I KNOW YOU!" you yelled, pointing at him. This caused him to jump in fear and fall against the pile of boxes. Now there was mess everywhere.

"Do you really?" he asked, still on the ground and overwhelmed with paper which had dropped from a box when it fell "Now would you please stop pointing at me with that finger and help me get out of this mess?".

"Thank you for helping me carry everything inside!" he smiled. You two were sitting on the sofa in his apartment and were having a beer.

"E-tooo... Where were we?" you muttered while thinking about the previous events "AHA! HEY! I KNOW YOU!" you then exclaimed and pointed the same finger at him.

He laughed a bit, then said: "I'm Nishinoya Yuu. Do you want my autograph perhaps?". He was adjusting his spiky hair in a very proud attitude.

"You are Kou's teammate from high school!" you said out of a sudden inspiration, still pointing that goddamn finger at him "The dumb libero!"

"Yeah, yeah, ri- WHAT?!" he yelled, causing you to laugh, thing he grinned about. You found yourself thinking of how you liked boys who smile, grin and are cheerful, so you stared at him a bit.

"What's the matter?" he asked abruptly.

"N-nothing!" you replied.

"So..." you went on feeling a bit awkward after some silence "Why have you moved from Miyagi? I'm here to attend university. Are you here for the same purpose?"

"No, absolutely not!" he exclaimed. Then he lay his empty bottle on the floor next to the sofa, which was the only piece of furniture in the room at the moment, brought his arms behind his neck and had a little laugh. Then he added: "I'm here to find some part time job until I understand what I really want to do with my life, actually... No clear aim by now".

It was all dark, for there was no electricity in the apartment, which was empty for a long time. With no one paying electricity bills, he had to light some old emergency candles he had found somewhere in the apartment. You were now staring at his features in the dark, scarcely lightened by the quivering light of the candles.

You thought you'd never be able to fall for a boy again after Suga had left, but this time you had to change idea. And you realised this as soon as you got out of your new neighbour's apartment and the door was shut.

Sugawara noticed you had something different the day after, as you were walking to get some ice cream.

He was holding your hand, but this didn't awake in you the emotions you expected it would. Normally, your heart would have skipped a beat but this time it didn't. In your mind, you were holding hands with a friend you hadn't been seeing for such a long time.

What you didn't know was that he had come home to tell you something.

"[Name]..." he said in a soft voice as you were enjoying your strawberry ice cream "I... I have to tell you something".

"Mhmh" you hummed with a smile on your face. Normally you would have faltered and blushed hearing those words coming out of his mouth. Now he was blushing instead.

"I don't know how to explain it... I think... I've actually been thinking about you a lot when I was in America. I'm afraid this will ruin our friendship, so I haven't told you before... But now I can't take it any more. I think I'm in love with you, [Name]".

Finally, it had happened. The thing you were waiting for since your first year of middle school was finally happening before your eyes. But no blood was pumping through your veins as you always had imagined. You were feeling terribly sorry, instead. You noticed your ice cream was no longer in your hands and was melting on the ground of the park you were walking in.

Suga smiled softly and looked away. "I've always known that" he said in a sad voice "I've always been afraid of not being enough for you".

And then he turned to go away, but suddenly you grabbed him from behind with both your arms and buried your face in his back. Some tears were pouring on his shirt.

"I used to love you" you sobbed "But now it's not the same anymore... Things don't stay the same, they change and people move on. You shouldn't have gone away from me then... But what kills me is that I was too afraid to tell you. You were brave and I was silly. I'm terribly sorry... I'm in love with someone else now".

Now you two were facing each other. You were rubbing your wet eyes.

"Who is he?" he asked.

"It's... Nishinoya Yuu" you confessed.

Hello people!

I'm still dealing with exams TwT

I'm sorry, this story is really really sad but I'm desperaaaaate I wish I were on holiday so I could travel or sleep all day so please bear with me. The GIF I put here also breaks me bc of Suga's sad face but what can I do?! :(

I promise there will be happier and funnier storier soon, okay?

Oh and anyway writing this was really hard! The person who asked for this short story really gave me a hard time tehehehheh XD
