Prologue

I know this is probably really crappy but this is my first ever "book" on wattpad so please note that I am new. If you do find any mistakes, kindly point them out and I'll be sure to fix them in the future...I hope...I am aware that this may be a very boring and short chapter but just work with me here. It is after all only the prologue- not even a real chapter!

    When I was only seventeen, the Apocalypse began to bring forth terrors, destroying our world. People fought for food, shelter, and water. Disease spread across the world, killing plants, animals, humans. Viruses took over all technology, almost all natural resources either used up or gone.

     Most died. Some lived through it. Amongst the few others, I, Audrey Colt, was one of the few survivors. My parents were not so lucky. The world was empty now. Not a single sign of life on any other country. The only place on the entire Earth where there were actually people, alive and fighting, was on America. Even still, the population had dwindled greatly. We had just enough to continue our species, almost all other life was wiped out.

     Before disaster struck, our president, Dillon Slater, made the mistake that had cost us everything. Nobody expected it. Slater was the type of person who was caring, gentle, and kind. He was generous, giving and was harmless even to a housefly. But once he was exposed to the effects of the apocalypse, all hell broke loose. The sights he saw were ones that can't be unseen, ones that nobody should have to burden. He was scarred by what he saw. For one entire year, he retreated into the Secret Government Protection Program, or SGPP for short, while chaos raged on above. Nobody knew what he had been doing down there but soon everybody forgot.

     During that year, those who had survived had rebuilt. We had developed new technology, by salvaging the broken bits of others, creating something new and far better. We developed synthetic foods that gave you your personal wants and needs. We stripped the water of its poison and had developed vaccines for the horrible diseases that had wiped out most of our population. We had a small functioning government and we were starting city beautification. Life was good and I don't think it could get any better, and hoping nothing like the apocalypse would happen ever again.
