Annie was absolutely covered  in soot. Three other people on set matched the sort of dirtiness, including Matt Smith, his stunt double, and her own. She watched four impressive take where the gangers somersaulted out from inside a chimney, but now it was their turn- it was time for Annie to make her true debut as one of the main companions in Doctor Who.

"I don't make the rules. Oh, no, hang on... I do," said Michael Gambon, who was playing Kazran as he hung up his prop phone, "Right, you lot... Poor, begging people, off home and pray for a miracle."

Matt and Annie were already on their marks; they were only waiting for Haynes' cue. Standing up and brushing himself off before helping Annie up, Matt had a silly grin on his face, "Ah! Yes, blimey. Sorry! Christmas Eve on a rooftop, saw a chimney, my whole brain just went, 'What the hell!'"

Annie had a smile on her face as well as he walked over to the children, who were begging for their aunt to come home for Christmas in the scene.

"Don't worry, fat fella will be doing the rounds later. I'm just scoping out the general.. chimney-ness..."

While Matt said his lines, Annie leant up against the bricks, and said one of her own, "Hmm... Nice size, good traction... big tick!"

"Brilliant, Annie," Matt said, flashing a physic paper at the guard, taking the fake sonic out of his pocket.

As the scene went on, Annie kept her attention on Michael Gambon. Haynes had told her to react with confusion as to how he was acting so cruel- something she had done when the Doctor had taken her to see the fish when Amy and Rory went on their honeymoon the first time around (only it was for real that time).

"There's no such thing as Father Christmas," said the boy who was playing the Son- Annie began to look affronted. She shared a look with Matt; who was pulling a photograph out of his jacket.

"Oh yeah? Me and Father Christmas, Frank Sinatra's hunting lodge, 1952. See him at the back with the blonde... Albert Einstein. The three of us together... mph! Watch out, OK?"

Annie stage-whispered into the boy's ear, "Keep the faith, stay off the naughty list. I've learned to live with it."

"And cut!" Came the voice of Haynes, and the scene began all over again.
