The Bunker

Prologue

Baby, we were born with fire and gold in our eyes.

"Are you serious?"

Amara scowled and focused her angry eyes on the wary green, yellow flecked eyes in front of her.

"Look, it was a mistake ok, setting buildings on fire is not my idea of a cool Tuesday afternoon." Eoghan shrugged his shoulders and looked away, hoping that avoiding eye contact with the fuming girl would end the discussion.

Amara sighed dramatically then stormed off muttering to herself, "You could have fooled me."

"To be fair, you normally don't levitate and turn into a giant ball of fire either, so you know..." a quirky voice piped up in the ensuing awkward silence.

"Shut up Quinn." Eoghan retorted in exasperation, then sighed.

"She's right though," he added, "We have to figure this out before we blow the world up by mistake." Eoghan rubbed his face despondently.

Quinn's lanky frame unpeeled itself from the bar stool it was usually attached to.

He walked over to his friend and thumped his shoulder in the odd way that men console each other then pulled him in for a quick, rough hug, which Eoghan begrudgingly accepted.

"We're going to figure this out," Quinn said more to himself than to anyone else, "The Bunker has to have some answers for us."

"I'm not going back there" Dylan shouted from the bathroom.

Quinn rolled his eyes and made his way back over to his seat.

"We don't really have a choice. I don't know about you, but I'm a college student not an aspiring super soldier. I don't know how to do this" Quinn waved his hand in the general direction of everyone in the apartment.

"Yeah well whatever magic solution we need to get to fix this, we better get it fast." Dylan retorted before stalking off after Amara in the hopes that she had cooled off enough and he could ask her for a ride home.

Not that he hadn't considered flying home, but that would most probably draw unnecessary attention and he'd done enough of that already today.
