Chapter 12: Not Exactly a Clique

Tea's POV

After being stuck in the hospital forever, going back to school actually seemed refreshing. I wanted to see how Y/n and Akiza were doing, because well, no one texted me since I made the science room explode. 

There were still staples on my head, but I couldn't feel a thing. Although I had to graze them with my fingers once in a while. Just knowing that I had staples in my head felt cringey. However, I was confident that no one would notice because my hair was covering it.

I now stood outside of the school building 1 1/2 hours before it opened its doors. I don't remember the last time I was early. I used to be one hour late, and it didn't take long for the teachers to get tired of it.

No one was around. Just some people walking past. Now, because I don't remember the last time I was early to high school, I didn't know what to do. I could just sit on the steps and think about life. ...... So that's what I did.

The concrete steps felt cold on my bare thighs, but I had to endure it for a while. I looked up at the cloudy sky and sighed. Suddenly, the image of a very young Y/n flashed before my eyes.

I was looking up at the large building of the Jenovia Elementary School. I hugged my teddy bear close to my side and sniffled as the cruel wind blew past us. I furiously wiped at my runny nose with my other hand. 

Then I heard something hit the ground. Someone.

I turned to the person. It was a girl, a h/c-haired girl. She lay face down in the gravel. I stared at her, wide-eyed until I heard a sniffle come from her. When she finally sat up, her face and forearms were dusty and dirty from the ground. 

I took a step forward when I saw that she was sobbing. Tears were streaming down her face, turning the dust and dirt into something like mud. Before I knew it, she was right in front of me. However, she didn't seem to notice me and continued to cry with her butt on the ground.

I looked around us, trying to figure out what to say. The teachers and kids were all occupied with something else. I finally looked down at this strange and clumsy girl and spoke. "Um..."

At once, the girl's sobbing ceased and she looked straight up at me with wide, teary eyes. Her body still shook with her crying, but she stopped making noise. 

I held out my teddy bear to her. "Wanna play?" I asked, trying to smile. the girl looked at me as if I were insane. However, she shakily stood up and held onto one of the teddy bear's arms tightly. 

"I-I'm gonna mess up your bear..." She whimpered, still trembling. It was my turn to stare at her as if she were crazy. I stubbornly pushed the teddy into her arms. "If you mess him up, he's still gonna like you!" I exclaimed.

Her e/c eyes widened, and then her body stopped trembling and the tears stopped flowing. "It's really okay if I play with him...?"

I nodded vigorously, smiling widely. "Yeah! Hey," I leaned in close and asked, "what's your name?"

The girl looked shy, but she didn't back away from me. "Y-Y/n... L/n... Y/n L/n." I moved back, happy to hear her name. "That's pretty! My name's Tea Gardener! Let's be friends!" I slowly held my hand out.

Y/n, holding onto the teddy bear with one hand, slowly took my hand with the other. She cracked a tiny smile. "O-okay... We'll be friends..."

"Oi, is that you, Tea?!" A sharp voice pulled me from my flashback. Students were beginning to gather around the steps. Well two, anyway.

It was Jaden Yuki, dressed in his trademark red jacket, and Yami, who looked, unsurprisingly, ready to fall asleep while standing. He held two cups of coffee in his hands. I assumed they were both his.
