~ the tuesday in question ~
I check Alexandra and my DM to get the instructions. Alex has told me exactly where Brogan is going to be, and she has told me where I can hide to surprise her.
The plan is, Shoma will come out and distract her, and hold her attention while I sneak up behind her.
Soon we get to the wall which blocks us from the lobby where Brogan should be.
"Shoma." I whisper, "is she there?"
Shoma peers round the wall and scans the room, for an agonisingly long amount of time.
What if Brogan has stitched me up?
Finally, Shoma turns back to me, with a beaming smile.
"I've spotted her."
I should be overjoyed, so ready to see her.
But instead I'm nervous, anxiety piling in my stomach. For a second, I don't want to see her.
"Hey, are you okay?" Shoma asks.
"I'm scared... I mean, what if she doesn't like me in person?"
"Sota. She loves you. Already. Just be yourself." Shoma hugs me, and as if he doesn't want me to overthink it, walks out immediately.
I can't resist peeking out of the corner of the wall to see her tiny self, and a gorgeous smile that graces her face when she sees him. She holds out her hand for a handshake, but he disregards it and gives her a short hug and says something to make her giggle, making my heart beat out of my chest.
Suddenly, I'm not nervous anymore.
Shoma gradually turns her around, so her back is to me.
When she can't see me at all, that's my cue.
Here goes the most important ten seconds of my life.
I sneak up quietly behind her, and wrap my arms around her waist, picking her up and swinging her across the floor. She screams, so I place her down and make her look me in the eye.
"I-It's you." She stammers, but her eyes are as wide and bright as the moon,.
"Yeah. I'm here. Shoma and Alexandra were in on this."
Out of the blue, she starts crying.
"Hey, what's wrong?"
"N-No... It's not bad. I'm just so, so happy. I love you." She cries.
"That's good. Because that means I can do this."
I gently place my lips on hers, my heart exploding into butterflies as I feel her smile into the kiss, and I immediately adore the way she tastes.
She tastes like sunshine. Caramel. A hint of salt, maybe from the tears.
But most of all, she tastes like happiness.
Something I've not had for so long.
I turn around to see Shoma... kissing someone.
Someone who's not Evgenia.
My eyes practically stand out on stalks on my head.
Because he's kissing Yuzuru.
"What the hell?" Brogan whispers beside me.
"I didn't even know..."
"It's cute, though."
I turn back to her.
"You're cuter, though. Can I tell you you're beautiful?" I ask.
"I thought you always told the truth? I'm not beautiful."
"Actually, I agree," I tell her, smirking at the way her face falls, "you're not beautiful. You're perfect."
"Sota?"
"Yeah?"
"That's now the nicest thing anyone's ever said to me."
