~Aimee ~

Sam was doing so well in his recovery that it was quite a shock when Florence showed up during fighting lessons, demanding Sam came back to camp, or Sam's house, to run some more tests.

'It's just an extra precaution. Emz- I mean, we can sense that he-he might not have been fully human when Brian attacked.' She explained.

'Emzhell sensed this? She knew he wasn't fully human?' Florence nodded, and I flew off to find Emzhell and give her what was coming to her.

'How could you tell? In both ways? How could you tell he wasnt human, and how could you tell Florence that? He was doing so well Emzhell!' I stormed landing down in front of where she and James were sitting.

'Oh yeah, coz being in graed three fighting is Brilliant for a sixteen year old! Aimee, you were in ninth graed fighting when you were seven!' She retorted.

'What are you guys talking about?' James asked. 'Grade two? Ninth grade? WHAT?'

'Emzhell will explain after, but first, did your parents have any medical condition, anything at all?'

'Mam had cancer, she died just after Sam was born, then dad died in my a plane crash when he was thirteen.' He explained, not the least not fazed about his parent's deaths.

'And what age are you?' I asked.

He laughed then. 'I couldn't tell you. I was away with the fairies after Jay's death. I thnk I'm two years older than Sam, but you'd have to ask him.'

I bid goodbye to them and left Emzhell to explain while I got explained to.

Flying back to Sam's house I got a mental image from Florence. Sam on his sunbed at the camp in the forest behind his house. I flew faster and got there just as Florence was jabbing a needle into his arm. I winced, expecting Sam to scream at any moment , but instead h just relaxed and fell into a deep sleep.

'We're going back home. He's coming with us.' Florence said, picking him up and giving him to some of the larger members of the pack, as is he were just a bag of flour. They flew off with some of this he others, leaving just me and Florence, collecting some of the medicines and bandages she brought.

'Does he have to go?' I asked, tears springing to my eyes.

Florence nodded, and rose a few metres into the trees. 'Are you coming?' She asked, 'he might need you there. I can see it. He is your mate. He needs you there when it we tell him.'

I glanced up. 'Why? What's wrong with him?' I asked, also rising up.

'Well, he told us that his mother had cancer' I nodded, 'I don't think it was cancer. He said that his father told him or came very quickly and she went very quickly. I think she was bitten, before he was born, and because he has her genes, I think he got the venom aswell. Only around fifteen percent of bite victims survive, but they stay alive for around three months, as it is a slow working venom. Sam had the gene. That's why he healed so quickly, that's why he's grade two on day two. He was a drow, is a drow and always will be.'

I sighed and rubbed my head. I never knew about his parents. All this time he's been helping me, I haven't helped him once. I rose up over the trees to join Florence.

'Lead the way.' I said, and we flew off to join the rest of our pack.

So much for staying human.
