Julian closed the door behind him after a short walk to his apartment. Bella was still out of breath and confused. She sat down on the living room couch, soon joined by Julian.
"Julian, what's going on?" Bella asked softly. Julian sighed.
"I'm sorry I didn't tell you, I guess I just forgot to bring it up..." he said quietly. Bell reached out and set her hand on top of his.
"Don't be sorry, Julian. I'm not angry," she said in a comforting voice. Julian looked up with smiling eyes. Silently, he reached down and pulled up his left pant leg, showing the jet black prosthetic. Bella scanned over the object with her eyes, taking in each detail.
"What happened, Julian?" Bella asked as she looked up at him. Julian's eyes looked down at his leg, scared. "You don't have to tell-"
"It's okay," he said, cutting her off. "I want to," Bella nodded. Julian took a deep breath and took himself back to a time. A time he hadn't thought about in a very long while.

8 Years PriorJulian was waiting impatiently for his video to finish uploading. He had fallen in love with making videos again. For awhile, he was in a rut. He was no longer a Jambassador, James picked at each of his tiny flaws, and he was totally uninspired to make videos. The only person who got him through it was Mia. Although they had their occasional bumps, their bond was strong. It seemed like it would always be that way.
These days were like a dream. James had finally quit to become a professional bodybuilder. AJHQ finally found some forgiveness and let Julian become a Jambassador again. Uninspired Mia finally gave up Animal Jam for the most part and started doing something she loved. Her channel became home to short films and makeup tutorials. As a result, Julian was now the biggest YouTuber in the community.
Just then, his phone began to buzz. He looked down and saw a FaceTime request from Mia. He quickly accepted, greeted by Mia's smiling face.
"Hey, Julian!" She said with her peppy smile. Her eyes sparkled even through a screen.
"Hey, Mia!" He exclaimed. "Are we still on to meet up tomorrow?" He asked.
"Oh course, Julian!" She said with a chuckle. The two talked for about an hour about their plans for the following day in D.C. The two lovebirds were inseparable, even when they were long distance. Finally, the two hung up so they could get some sleep.
Julian had a big plan for this visit. Tomorrow was the day. He was finally going to tell Mia that he loved her. He always had, but never had the guts to tell her. Mia was his world. His rock. She meant everything to him.
He would take a bullet for her.
That night, Julian slept nervously. He couldn't wait until the next day.
..............
Julian awoke early that Saturday morning. He got dressed and put on his favorite blue jacket before driving to the airport to pick up Mia. He waited at baggage claim anxiously. Finally, there she was. She had let her hair grow out the past few years, and it rested just above her chest. Her face was vibrant. The two ran into eachothers arms like they were in a movie. Julian held her tightly in his arms. Mia rested her head on his shoulded and held him even tighter, laughing. She leaned up and kissed him gently before the two set off to find Mia's bags and head home.
"How was the flight?" Julian asked as he started the car.
"It was alright, not too much turbulance," Mia replied with a smile. Julian smiled back.
"I'm glad," he said, merging onto the freeway. Mia nodded, distracted. She kept glancing down at her phone. Julian brushed it off. Finally, they arrived at his house.
"So what's the plan?" she asked. Julian chuckled.
"It's a surprise, just dress nice, okay?" he said smiling. Mia laughed and gave a fake eyeroll.
That night, Julian wore his black suit. He looked like he could be a spy. He gave a little laugh at that thought. He walked out to the living room and waited for Mia.
A few minutes later, she came strutting out of the guest room. She wore a black dress that hugged her curves, curled hair, and makeup to die for. She even did her signature eyeliner wings. Julian stood up.
"You look beautiful, Mia," Julian said, his face turning a light shade of red. Mia blushed as well.
"Look whose talking! You look so handsome, Julian," she said, straightening his tie. He smiled.
"Thank you, Mia," he replied,"now let's get going, shall we?" Mia giggled as they chained arms and headed for the car. It was a short drive, no traffic problems luckily. At last, Julian parked in front of Ville de L'amour, the fanciest French restaurant in the country. Expensive, too.
"Julian, you don't have to do this," she said, her eyes sparkling.
"It's okay, Mia," Julian replied with a smile, taking her hand. "You're worth it," And with that, the two walked into the restaurant hand and hand.
After the waiter found Julian's reservation, they were sat at a small table under a grand chandler. It was breathtaking. Julian looked over at Mia, who smiled at him gently. Julian placed his and Mia's order. When he looked back over at Mia, her face was pale and ghostly.
"Mia, are you alright?" Julian asked with a tone of concern. Mia looked up from the phone in her lap, startled.
"Oh... yeah. I-I just need to... use the restroom," she said, her hands shaking. She stood up and walked over to Julian's chair and gave him a quick peck on the lips. Before Julian could ask anything else, she hurried away.
He stood up and went over to the restrooms, just wanting to make sure Mia was okay. What he heard made him literally freeze.
"Why the hell haven't you broken up with him yet, Mia?" Asked a familiar voice.
"It's not that easy, Nate," Mia said in a hushed yell. Julian glanced in. Nate had her pinned up against up against the wall by the door.
"All you have to say is 'Hey Julian! You're a douchbag! Cya!'" He shouted. Mia cried.
"But I love him, Nate!" She yelled out. Nate slapped her. Mia stopped her tears and shut up.
"You leave me no choice. I told you that if you broke up with the idiot and got together with me, I wouldn't kill you," he reached into his back pocket and pulled out a pistol. Mia was paralyzed. She could move. Julian's heart stopped. Nate aimed his gun. "You had your chance, Mia,"
"No!" Julian screamed as he jumped in front of Mia
Bang.
