Julian finally made the decision and put in his 3 month notice. This way he could continue to get a paycheck and save for the academy. Bella had enrolled in an online college so that she would have more time for the new business. She didn't need a fancy university to achieve her dreams. She and Julian had moved in together, her sleeping on the couch, and him on the bed. Whenever Bella wasn't doing homework and Julian wasn't grading papers, they were looking at all of he available store fronts. All of them were either too small or too expensive. Still, they never gave up hope and continued working.

As the two approached their one month anniversary, their love only grew stronger. Leaves were turning orange and falling on the streets. The air was cool and breezy. Love was in the air. Bella sat on the couch with her laptop and text books, working on an essay for English. Julian opened the door, exhausted.

"How was work?" she asked. He plopped down next to her.

"Tiring, as always," he said. Bella gave a soft laugh.

"I missed you," she said, leaning her head on her shoulders. He pecked her forehead gently.

"I missed you too," he replied. "Are you up for looking at some more storefronts today?" he asked.

"I don't think so. I think I'm coming down with something," she said. Julian nodded. "Hopefully it's just allergies," she said with a smile, continuing her essay.

"Are you gonna get it checked out?" Julian asked, mildly concerned.

"I can't afford to. I don't have health insurance, remember?" She said. Julian nodded. "Besides, it's probably just allergies," Bella reasoned. Julian held her hand. She was probably right, as it was getting colder.

That night, the two cuddled up beneath a blanket on the couch. Bella shivered softly as Julian held her tighter.

"Are you sure you're alright, Bella?" Julian asked. Bella nodded.

"Yeah, I'm just cold. We don't get this weather back home," she replied, leaning her head on his chest. Not to long after, the two fell asleep. Julian dreamt about the years to come. One day, they'd get married. He just knew it. They'd have family and kids. They'd spend the rest of their lives together. Every little decision in his life had lead him here. One wrong choice, and he would have never met this beautiful girl. For the first time in a long time, he was happy. Genuinely happy.

He awoke around 3am, realizing they had drifted off. He leaned down to remove his prosthetic before looking over at Bella. He froze. Her nose was blue. He quickly uncovered her and looked at her body.

Her fingertips were black.
