Troy
I used to love my job. I still do. But ever since Uber came along business just hasn't been the same. A lot of my workers have left to go to Uber as it works out better for them.
The only reason my business is still running is due to the fact we have some well paid jobs within the company.
I have a group of cars that collect both adults and children with special needs to get them to and from their destination. The kids are picked up and dropped to school or college and the adults are taken to centres or out for the day with a carer.
I would say 80% of my business is operated this way and that is what's keeping me afloat. However. I'm unable to expand and that's because after all expenses are paid I'm left with almost nothing.
Not that it matters at the minute. All my staff hardly ever turn up. Take today for example. It's Friday evening and we can get busy. Most of my drivers can't be bothered to come in and Megan is off "sick" - some assistant she is.
"Hey..." I heard a voice say.
I looked up and it was Megan.
Talk of the devil.
"Thought you was sick..." I said not really interested.
"I am. I thought you would have called to check in on me." She said.
I looked up at her.
"Why? You're sick, not dying." I said.
"I know. But I thought you'd have at least checked in on me."
"Why? Why would I do that?"
"I had a miscarriage..."
"Never knew you was pregnant. Sorry for your loss. Well, take as much time as you need off." I said getting back to work.
"Our loss."
I gave her a quick side eye.
"Pardon?"
"The baby was yours Troy."
"Did you know you was pregnant?"
"Yes."
"And you didn't tell me?"
"Ye..Yeah."
"And you say it's meant to be my baby, no sorry was."
"Yes!"
"And you planned on telling me when exactly?"
"When... when I was a few months and could no longer lose the baby."
I stared at Megan as if she was crazy.
"Well it's a good thing you lost the baby then isn't it."
"Wow."
"What? What did you expect?"
"We've been seeing each other for a year now and this is what I get."
"Fucking."
"Pardon."
"We've been fucking for a year. How can we be seeing each other? I'm married."
"Yet, you're willing to fuck me. Yeah... that makes sense."
The only reason I sleep with her is because Sasha won't sleep with me. Dunno why she thinks it's going to be more than that.
"Look. We never once spoke about kids. It clearly wasn't your time. It most certainly will never be OUR time so let's just say you had a lucky escape. I'll tell you what, I'll pay you your going rate for you little stomachache and I'll run the switchboard whilst you're off."
