Billie woke up the next day hung over. She crawled out of bed and took a long hot shower, and tried to wrap her head around all the events from the day before. And she wondered it was all a dream. She didn't have that kind of luck where she would have a wonderful night with someone who was clearly out of her league. However as she got dressed, she got confirmation that everything that happened was a reality.
She got a good morning text from Chris, and he asked if she was interested in having dinner later on in the week. She didn't answer right away, but went to the corner café for her standard cup of coffee and morning bagel. And after walking around the block while racking her brain, she decided to give him a chance. It was just a harmless dinner. After finalizing their plans, she tried finishing up her other assignments but she couldn't concentrate.
It was strange that she felt so comfortable around him, and she could see herself talking to him for hours and never getting bored. And it didn't help that he was easy on the eyes, but she felt there more than just a physical attraction. She was drawn by his intelligence and twisted sense of humor.
And even though she struggled, she still managed to finish all of her work, and got great feedback from her interview yesterday. She knew she did a great job, but was surprised to learn that some higher ups were thinking about offering her a permanent position. She was flattered by the proposal, but she wasn't sure if she wanted to be a full time correspondent. She made a decent living as a writer, and even though people told her all the time she had a natural talent for interviewing, she wasn't the type that relished the spotlight. At least with freelancing, she was able to hide behind her laptop and still flourish in her craft.
But little did she know, just a few days later, she was presented the opportunity to fly out for a job interview at the Collider offices in LA. She tried calling her mom to tell her the good news, but got her voicemail. She then called her dad, but immediately regretted her decision when he seemed only slightly interested.
Ever since her parents divorced when she was a teen, there had been a strange rift between them. For years, she resented him for just leaving his wife and starting a new family with his mistress. But as she grew older, she tried to remain civil even though he never made that much of an effort himself. So it wasn't surprising that he didn't have time. But he did give her an empty promise that he would call her later.
Billie hung up the phone with the wind knocked out of her sails, but she swallowed her pride like a hard tequila shot. And instead of sulking, she ran some errands, and then prepared for her date.
She kept telling herself that it was just going to be an innocent dinner but as she roamed her closet for an outfit, she felt those annoying butterflies in her stomach once again.
She decided on a pair of black leggings, a lacy low cut top, and her favorite pair of boots. She wasn't the type that wore a ton of makeup, but she did give herself a sultry smoky eye and just enough gloss to seem like she wasn't trying too hard. She struggled with her thick dark hair. It was always a pain in the ass to straighten it thoroughly without it frizzing. And she questioned whether or not she should chop it all off, but she been threating to do so for years.
