I slowly get up at the sound of footsteps. It is so dark, I can't see my hands. I go over to the bars of my cage and wait for Gomber. Aftera few minutes I can vaguely see his face.
"I'd hide if I was you Gomber. Even if most of the guards are asleep there are still some that are doing their shifts."
"Nah ill be fine. It's 3:45am. I'll wait about ten minutes then go and nab the keys."
"Cool. Do you still want me to make a fuss?"
"Na, just pretend to sleep. I'll unlock your cage then return the keys and we will make a dash for it."
"Okay. One question, Does everyone else know about this?" His face falls.
"Uh ya, about that..."
"Don't worry."
"Okay. I'll go now."
"Cool. Goodluck."
"Thanks, I'll need it." He turns and sneaks away to the office. I can just see it from here. A pale light comes on, but no sign of problems. The light is off, and Gomber is out! He comes over to my cell and unlocks it. It clicks loudly and we both flinch. We stay down for a while them realise no-one is coming and get up again. I slowly creak open the door and step out. He locks it again.
"Go to the other side of the forest. Opposite the house."
"But.."
"No. Just go NOW Thalia."
"What about you?"
"I'll meet you there." My face relaxes. He gives a short wave then slips inside the office. I Head off down the row of cells towards the tree line. All the other prisoners are asleep. I see a flash light off to the left and veer right. I break through the line of trees and pick up to a run. I run and run and run. I didn't even know I had this much energy. I get out the other side and see a cottage with lights on. Shrinking into the shadows I sit under a tree and try to stay awake. I wish I had my bow with me. I could shoot targets. I don't know how long I sit there but I am hoit alertby the sound of running, i sit up and go to meet Gomber.
"What took you so long?"
"Ruddy Guard nearly woke up when I slipped the keys into his pockets. Then a guard almost saw me but I managed to hide from his flash light beam. I ran all the way here."
"Same here. Im so tired." My stomach gave a rumble. "Um.." I just realised how long it had been since I actually ate something.
"Hungry?" He laughed, "Lets go get some tucker."
We walk what seems like years until we get to a 24hr take away. The clerk looks almost bored out of his mind. When we walk in he jumps up and runs to the counter. I look at his name badge 'Scooter'.
"Hello! What would you like from 'Heavens Take aways'?"
"Can we please get two mango crush smoothies and two cheese burgers." I look at Gomber in wonder. How did he know my favourite?
"Coming right up."
We go sit down at a table near the window and wait. The clerk brings our smoothies out and we drink them while he makes the burgers. They are amazing. So sweet and Mangoey. When he brings out the burgers we scoff them and order chips. I don't know what happened to the chips. I fell asleep before he brung them out.
