Nam debuted in 2013 as a model for the SONGZIO Homme Spring/Summer 2014 collection. In 2014, he appeared in the music videos of fellow YG Entertainmentartist Akdong Musician,and made his acting debut with a supporting role in the tvN drama The Idle Mermaid.[citation needed]
In 2015, Nam starred in Who Are You: School 2015 where his acting was criticized.In 2016, he played supporting roles in Cheese in the Trap as well Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo, for which he received further acting criticisms. The same year, Nam became a cast member in the variety showThree Meals a Day. He then co-starred in the youth sports drama Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-joo. In 2017, he will star in tvN's fantasy-romance series Bride of the Water God.
