2008–2012: BeginningsEdit
Kim entered the entertainment industry in 2008 by appearing in commercials, and became known as the "Lollipop Girl".[2] She made her acting debut in the drama Mrs. Saigon.
Kim first gained attention after starring in the 2011 sitcom High Kick: Revenge of the Short Legged. She then played her first major television role in the musical drama What's Up. The same year, she made her film debut in the omnibus filmRomantic Heaven.[3] Kim then starred in the high school drama To the Beautiful You and headlined the horror film Horror Stories in 2012.[4][5]
2013–2016: Rising popularity and breakthroughEdit
In 2013, Kim featured in The Heirs, wherein she played a chic and haughty heiress.[6][7] The drama's popularity raised Kim's profile and won her the "New Star Award" at the SBS Drama Awards.[8][9]
In 2014, she starred in the crime thrillerGap-dong.[10] In December 2014, Kim signed an exclusive contract with King Kong Entertainment.[11] She also starred alongside So Ji-sub in the web seriesOne Sunny Day in 2015.[12]
In 2016, Kim starred in KBS2's pan-Asia hit drama Descendants of the Sun, playing an army surgeon.[13] The drama's success brought Kim further recognition outside Korea.[14][15][16]
2017–present: Leading rolesEdit
In 2017, Kim was cast in her first leading role in KBS2's romance drama, Fight for My Way alongside Park Seo-joon.[17] She was also cast in the third installment of the Detective K film series as the female lead.[18]
