"Alright, ladies let's go through the piece one more time starting at measure 25 and this time-"
My choir director was cut off by the bell. She sighed, "Nevermind. We'll work on it tomorrow. Have a good day!"
We all put our music into our binders and hurried to pick up our bags by the mirrors on the other side of the room. As I was walking out of the door, I almost ran into somebody that was trying to get in. I moved out of the way so he could get through. He looked at me and walked in, completely unfazed. I, however was quite the opposite.
I went through the hallways, looking for my friend, Angelina who I always met after second hour. I saw her walking towards me and I sprinted over, almost running into a human giraffe.
As soon as I caught up to her, I yelled, "I SAW HIM!!"
She smiled, "Scott?"
"YES! HE WAS WALKING INTO CHOIR WHILE I WAS WALKING OUT AND HE LOOKED AT ME!! HE LOOKED AT MEEEE!!" I yelled.
"OH MY GOD NO WAY!! YOU'RE PRACTICALLY MARRIED!!" she mocked me.
I rolled my eyes, "It's a big deal for me, okay?"
"Oh, I know it is. Trust me. When are you going to talk to this guy?"
I sighed, "Probably never."
She shook her head, "Nope. That's not acceptable. You've been freaking out every time you see him forever. You have to say something to him before he graduates."
"Yeah, like that's gonna happen. Have you met me? And have you seen him?"
She laughed, "Yes I've seen him. You just need to figure out how to spark some kind of conversation with him."
I knew she would never drop this, so I decided to just agree. "Alright. But in the meantime, I'm just going to keep staring at him from afar."
"You are so creepy."
"Yeah, well. What he doesn't know won't scare him."
We walked into our history class just as the bell rang. We took our seats and turned to our friend sitting next to us.
"Hi Kyle!"
He rose his hand and waved in response. He always acted like we were crazy, but I think he secretly thought we were funny.
Mr. Dakota came in and we waited for him to lecture us, like usual.
He started going over the worksheet that we did last night and I started to let my mind wander. Unwillingly, Scott's face popped into my head.
I had been in choir ever since 6th grade, and I'm a sophomore now, so it's been a while. I have always been in love with it and I have since been proudly calling myself a choir nerd. I've also been in drama since freshman year. I have always wanted to be part of the cast, but I have horrible stage fright and have never worked up the courage to audition for a part. I work backstage, on the costumes crew. I love it, everyone in drama is basically one big family. And that's where I first saw him.
Scott is the ultimate choir nerd. He's in the highest level choir here, and he's had a part in every play and musical that our school has done since he was a freshman. In the world of choir, he's definitely in 'The In Crowd.' If you're in choir, you can bet that you've heard of Scott Hoying.
He's not the only one though, his two best friends, Kirstie and Mitch have been right beside him in all of the musicals and choir concerts. Scott and Kirstie are seniors, and Mitch is a junior. To the choir kids, those three are the coolest people ever and a lot of us wish we were in their group. Me included.
When I said that everyone in drama is like a family, they are included. So one would think that I would have talked to him by now. I probably would have, except for the sad fact that I am probably the most awkward child you will ever meet. I'm not good at talking to new people to begin with, but then when you add Scott's gorgeous blue eyes and spiked up blonde hair... I just have no hope in having a good conversation with him.
So I've just been daydreaming about him since I saw him last year, and he will probably never acknowledge my existence. And that, ladies and gentleman, is the sad life of-
"Scarlett?"
My head jerked up, seeing Mr. Dakota looking at me expectantly.
"What?"
"Who were the carpetbaggers?" he asked.
"Uhh...the bad guys?"
He sighed, "Will you please start paying attention?"
"Yeah.. sorry."
And that's what I get for thinking about him.
