The next morning I woke up to a text from Shane.

You got any plans for today?

I was planning on staying home and doing nothing on my Saturday, but it looks like that's not happening.

Nope. You have any suggestions?

Maybe...

And that is?

Meet at Kyle's in an hour :)

What are we doing?!

You'll see. Oh and dress warmish

I sighed, deciding against telling him 'warmish' is definitely not a word.

Dawn was still sleeping and I knew she would not want me to wake her up so I just left a note on the fridge telling her where I was going.

An hour later, I was knocking on Kyle's front door, still irritated that Shane wouldn't tell me what we were doing.

Shane opened the door, beaming. It was definitely a nice sight to see in the morning. As much as it weirded me out to think about one of my best friends like this, he was actually really attractive. He was quite a bit taller than me, with chocolate brown hair, blue eyes, and a perfect crooked smile.

"Hey Scarlett!"

"Hi Shane," I said as I walked through the door. "Wanna tell me where we're going?"

He smirked, "No, not really."

I rolled my eyes, "Let me rephrase that. Where are we going?!"

"It's not that big of a deal, I was thinking we could just go hang out downtown?"

"See, that wasn't so hard was it?"

"It was incredibly hard."

I laughed. Shane is always making a joke out of everything.

"Where's Kyle?" I asked, gazing around the apartment.

"Here," Kyle said, walking out from his room, wearing sweats and a t-shirt.

"So are you ready to go then?" Shane asked, directing his question to Kyle.

He looked between Shane and I before saying, "You know what, I'm not feeling that great, you guys can go ahead."

"Are you sure?" I asked.

He nodded.

Shane shrugged, "Okay. Wanna get going, Scar?"

"Sure, I guess."

A few hours later, Shane and I were walking through the streets of downtown. It was October, so it wasn't freezing yet, but it definitely wasn't warm. The Starbucks in my hand was helping a little though.

"So what's been going on at the prison?" he asked me.

I smiled, 'the prison' was his nickname for the school. Needless to say, he wasn't the best student in the past.

"Not much," I said, not sure if I should say anything about Scott.

"Oh come on, there has to be something."

"Well, I ran into someone that I used to go to school with."

"Really? Who?"

I hesitated, "Did Kyle ever say anything to you about Scott?"

"...No I don't think so. Who?"

Shane didn't go to school with us, Kyle met him in college. It dawned on me that Shane has no idea who Scott even is. Would Kyle even remember?

"He was this guy who I was kind of in love with," I told him. "He was two years ahead of me and he and his friends were like, the coolest people in choir. I always wanted to talk to him, to say something, anything but I never got up the nerve to. Then he graduated and I assumed I would never see him again." I paused.

Shane was being strangely quiet, I thought he would have added a stupid comment by now.

"Anyway, long story short I ran into him a couple times and he's still super attractive and now I have his number," I said, feeling kind of awkward for some reason.

"Ooh, his number! You're practically married!" He mocked me.

There it was. I rolled my eyes, "Yeah, yeah. It probably won't go anywhere, but can you blame me for being happy? I freaked out about him for years! Besides, it's been a long time since I've been excited about a guy."

"Has it?" he asked.

"Yeah. You do realize the only guys I really see are you and Kyle, right?"

He laughed, "Really? Well don't I feel special. Maybe you should keep it that way."

"What's that supposed to mean?"

"I just don't want you to get hurt, Scar." he said, suddenly serious.

I shook my head, "Don't worry. He'll probably never call me anyway."

He mumbled something that I couldn't quite make out, but it sounded sort of like '...be stupid not to.'

After hours of walking around and talking, he drove me home and walked me to my door.

"Thanks, Shane. Today was really fun!"

"No problem, Scar." he said, hugging me.

I smiled, he was the only one who ever called me 'Scar' and he knew it.

"I'll talk to you later?" I said.

He nodded, before backing up and saying "Goodnight."

I walked inside to see Dawn staring at me with her eyebrows raised in an accusing stare.

"What?" I asked.

"You were out with Shane all day."

"Yeah, and?"

She just gave me the 'something is going on here' look.

I rolled my eyes, "You know it's not like that. It's just Shane."

She shook her head, like she wasn't telling me something. "You're so blind."

"What are you talking about?"

"Oh, nothing."

"You're weird," I said, walking into my room to change.

"Love you too!" she yelled.

I shook my head, trying to clear my thoughts. What was she implying?
