26. A Date?

Everyone was saying that I needed to talk to Shane, so I guess I needed to talk to Shane. I think anyone who knew me for more than a second could tell that I was scared to. To talk to him meant I had to be completely honest and tell him that I might have feelings for him, but I'm still not sure, which undoubtedly is going to make everything even more complicated when he finds out. But it had to be done.

I texted him because I was too chicken to call. Texting was easier, you had time to plan your responses.

We need to talk is all I sent.

After about five agonizing minutes, he texted back: Agreed.

We decided to meet up at a coffee shop, which seemed to be a bit of a trend for us, but what can I say? It's cozy, it's public, and coffee. It's hard to go wrong with coffee shops.

It was late afternoon when I arrived and he was already sitting at a table with a steaming coffee cup in front of him. I ordered and sat down across from him.

"Soooo," he drew out the word. "It hasn't been this awkward between us in a while, huh?"

I laughed despite myself, "That's an understatement."

"What's up? Why contact me now?" He asked.

I hesitated for a moment. "I guess I just need to figure out where you're at so I can figure out where I'm at."

He nodded slowly. "Well, I know where I am. Where do you think you are?"

"I'm still not sure. I think... I think I could have feelings for you, but I'm honestly just still trying to wrap my head around it."

The side of his mouth twitched up in a slight smirk. "You think you could have feelings for me, huh?"

Suddenly that smirk was very attractive. Damn it. "Shut up, don't make me say it again. How do you feel after all this?"

"Nothing has changed, Scar."

I let that process for a second. He still loves me.

"So... now what?"

"Now," Shane said, grinning. "I take you on a date."

"A date?"

"Yep! That's what people do to see if they like each other, you know," he said, slyly.

"I guess you're right. Where should we go?"

"I can handle that. It should be somewhere that we've never been together before, so it's like a fresh start."

"That's a great idea!"

"Great. I'll pick you up at 8," he winked, and with that, strode out of the coffee shop.

"You're going on a date... with Shane?" Dawn asked, incredulous.

"I know! It'll be weird. There's no chance that it won't be weird, is there?" I asked.

"Absolutely none," Dawn agreed.

"That's encouraging, thank you."

"I'm just trying to be honest, here!"

Just then, Scott called me. Seeing his name light up my phone after a few days made my heart leap.  Dawn's eyes widened when she saw who it was.

"I'll give you guys some privacy, but you have to tell my everything later," Dawn said, going to her room.

I took a deep breath, trying to steady my breathing. Why was I so nervous, suddenly? It's Scott. I know Scott. It'll be fine.

"Hello?" I answered.
