Chapter Three

The grass tickled my feet as the sun shone brightly down onto my swimsuit clad body. The sky was clear of any white, puffy clouds. I couldn't help the smile that developed on my pink lips as I took another long puff of the cigarette. Madison and Kristen were lying on either side of me, their arms touching mine as they smoked a shared joint between us all. Brandon had his head by mine and Kyle had his by Kristen's. I honestly swore those two fancied each other, but every time I mentioned it to Madi, she denied all accusations. I reached above me and handed my cigarette to Brandon before I sat up and reached for my jean shorts that were by my feet. I dug around the pocket, a smile forming when my fingers wrapped around the joint. I fell softly back onto the ground, taking my purple lighter back from Kristen. "Can I just say, I love my life?" I sighed wistfully.

"Darling, may I just say, I think that you are matter of fact high," Kristen bubbled into loud laughter. I couldn't hold it back either, her posh English accent was just such a major fail. 

"Why, my sugar plum." I mimicked her voice as I held in laughter. "I think you might just be right." I couldn't stop the laughter again as it exploded out of my mouth. It bubbled from the bottom of my stomach and out. I lifted my hands up and brought them to tangle into Brandon's soft hair. "Brandon," I whined. "Will you give me my joint back?" 

Brandon, the only one who didn't pick up a joint or cigarette today, grabbed my hands from his hair and curled his fingers between mine. "I think you’re good for now, Savvy."

I sat up and leaned on my elbows, twisting my neck around to look at him. “But I want it.” I jutted out my bottom lip, and I looked down into his eyes and saw a faint look of sadness cross through his blue eyes before it quickly disappeared and he rolled his eyes at me.

He sighed and sat up, mirroring my position before he stood to his feet. His arms circled my bare waist and lifted me up and held me cradled in my arms. “Hey, let me down!” I snapped at him, swinging my feet frantically around, hoping to cause him at least an ounce of pain.

Below me, Kris, Madi and Kyle were all laughing at me, as they continues enjoying themselves as Madi took the last puff of the joint before she pushed the bud into the green ground. “Where are we going?” She asked, standing up and dusting her shorts off.

Brandon raised an eyebrow. “Who said anything about we?”

I rolled my eyes at Brandon and Kyle snickered loudly. “They’re probably off to do the deed again.”

I glared murderously at Kyle and slapped Brandon in the chest. “I would never let him take advantage of me while I’m in such a high manner.” I said flippantly.

Brandon’s laughter vibrated through my chest and I continued to glare at Kyle as we had a stare down. Challenge accepted, I thought. “Honey, you’d let him take advantage of you anytime he wanted.” Kris scoffed at me, referring to my previous statement. “I would too,” She mumbled, and Madi quickly agreed with a quick head nod.

“Ugh!” I groaned. “Just shut up you lot.” I shouted at them, but a small smile formed on my lips. “And Brandon, let me down.” I began to kick my feet again.

“No can do, babe.” Brandon smirked at me as he began walking out of the grass and onto the sidewalk. He looked back at our group of friends, a small smile on his face. “We’ll talk to you guys later.”

Kris shot up from her position on the ground. “But I want to go with you too; don’t leave me here with them!” She whined, saying the word with heavy disgust although she was joking.

Brandon ignored the whining girl as he turned his back to her and tightened his arms around me before he slowly began to lower me to the ground. His arm stayed around my waist so I briskly wrapped my arm around his torso. We walked down the long path that would eventually lead us to my home. “So, your birthday is coming soon.” Brandon said randomly.
