Chapter Seven
I was blowing out of proportion. I was going way to crazy. I was getting too worked up about this-this date that I had with Luke. Why was I freaking out? That was the million dollar question.
Screaming, I gripped the bright pink shirt I had in my hand tightly before throwing it over my head and it landing into the large pile that was building up by the foot of my bed. Nothing was catching my attention, and I was beginning to wonder if it was because I was over thinking this. This was just another guy, nothing different. I felt like I had repeated that phase in my head for ten minutes before it actually began to set into mind.
As a smirk began to play onto my lips, I dug through my closet as the perfect outfit came to my mind. It would literally drive him crazy.
With a quick sigh, I threw off the clothes I had on and briskly placed the blue dress over my head. Walking over to the mirror, I smoothed the dress down with my hands. As I looked over myself in the mirror, I decided against makeup tonight.
Who ever said beauty was makeup?
The doorbell rang as I fluffed my hands through my hair, leaving it in tousled bed-head waves. I picked up the pair of bright orange gladiators and rushed down the stairs. "I got it!" I shouted at my brother as he walked towards the door, a half-eaten sandwich in his hand. His eyes widened at me.
"What are you doing?" He asked me, and from the corner of my eye, I saw him glance over me. "And where are you going dressed so... girly?" His eyebrow scrunched downwards in confusion.
I glanced at him as I continued my venture towards the front door. "Coming!" I shouted before looking back at him. "Michael just shut up... and where is your shirt?" I asked him as I placed my hand on the door handle. I opened it, but I was still looking at my brother who shrugged his shoulders at me. I saw his eyes widen and him nearly drop his sandwich.
"Are you going on a date?" His shocked facial expression made me want to laugh.
I rolled my eyes at him. "Yes Michael, I am. I won't be home till late, so don't wait up for me." I said as I walked through the door. I had not yet looked at Luke, but I could almost sense him smiling amusedly at me.
"Wasn't go to anyway!" I heard him shout through the door.
With a deep breathe, I finally mustered up the courage and looked at Luke. I felt my breath catch in my throat at his smile entered my vision. A small blush formed on my cheeks and I glanced down at the ground. I cursed myself, this wasn't me. "Sorry about that," I laughed, flicking my head back towards my quaint house.
"It's fine." He said. "You look beautiful tonight," He whispered, almost so lowly that I didn't hear.
"Thanks." I said back. "You don't look so bad yourself." I joked, turning my half smirk, half smile into a full smile. I followed Luke across the grass to next door where his car sat in his driveway. I always seemed to forget that he lived right next door to me. We reached his car in seconds, where he opened the passenger door of his black Jeep. "Why thank you, kind sir." Faking a British accent, I hooked one leg into his tall Jeep while he grabbed my waist and hoisted me up the rest of the way.
"Sorry," He apologized this time. "I should have taken my mom’s car or something, this one is pretty tall."
Laughing, I smiled at him. "It's perfectly fine, I really like it." I looked around at the chrome interior and my eyes glanced at the expensive looking radio system. "It's definitely better than having nothing." I said, glancing at the driveway where only my brothers white pickup truck was parked.
Luke looked at my driveway before looking back at me, his eyes held a small amount of sadness. "I'm sure you'll get one soon."
"Yeah..." I muttered. But the truth was, I doubt I would. My mother was never around since the problem that caused our family to reach havoc. I watched Luke circle around the car where he opened the door and sat down in the driver seat and immediately turning it on. "So," I began. "Where are we going?"
"That," He smiled widely, placing the car in drive. "Is a surprise."

"Are we... at a park?" I asked slowly, glaring at the bright blue pieces of kid toys. I scrunched my nose up as I looked down at my dress, I loved going to the park and all, but I'm wearing a dress.
"Yeah," He nodded his head as he parked his car. He opened his door and walked around to come open mine. I rolled my eyes, always so chivalrous?
"Thank you." I said, despite being slightly annoyed with the act. I stepped out of the car and closed the door behind me and then walked to stand beside Luke. "Why isn't this packed with little kids?" I questioned, looking around at the deserted park.
Shrugging his shoulders, Luke grabbed my hand and began walking towards the area. "Probably too hot."
I looked up at the sky, noticing that the sun was at it's highest point and that it did feel really warm outside. "Probably," I agreed. "Come on, let's go!" I shouted, a large grin planted on my lips. I began running towards the jungle gym and instantly went towards the monkey bars. I placed my hands firmly around the bars and laughed when I realized I was too tall.
"Do you mind getting wet?" Luke asked as he came to stand beside me. He placed his hands on my hips and hoisted me up into the air so I could do the monkey bars. I began moving my hands as I moved across the bars without a flaw.
Smiling, I looked down at him. "No, why?"
"Cause'," He said, glancing at the other side of the park. "They have the splash park on."
"Shit yeah!" I yelled, dropping my arms from the bars, causing Luke to tighten his grip on my waist. When my feet where planted on the ground, I sprinted towards the splash park. When I reached the edge of the water park, I slipped my shoes off. Glancing over my shoulder, I saw Luke nearing me as he hopped on one foot in attempt to take his shoes off. I laughed at the site, turning my head back around. I walked into the running water, instantly feeling how cold it was. Ignoring it, I turned back around towards Luke. I let out a squeak when his hands went to my waist and I was lifted up and strewn across his shoulder.
I pounded my fist on his back. "Let me down!" I shrieked.
Luke's chest vibrated with laughter. "I'm good," He continued to chuckle. "Get ready."
My body tensed when I felt a huge splash of water came down onto my back. "Holy shit" I cursed. "That's cold!"
Luke and I spent nearly four hours at the park, until the stars shone brightly in the sky and there was only the light from the streetlamps lighting our way around. He didn't mind when I got into his car all sopping wet. And when we got home, he walked me to my door -which, at the time, I could only think how cliché it was- and told me that tonight was some of the most fun he has had in a while. I could tell there was something lingering on his mind when he said it, but I didn't push the thought.
I watched him walk back to his Jeep and drive off. I walked into my quiet house and leaned my back against the door. My heart was thumping in my chest.
That scared me.
