When Iris got in the car, I looked at her with my mouth wide open. "That was so bad ass of you!" I exclaimed before hugging her.
She laughed, "Let's get you home, Poppy. It's been a long day for the both of us, we need our beauty sleep for tomorrow."
"Alright." I said as I drove to my house.
"It felt good." She said.
"Breaking up with him?" I asked.
"No, slapping him." she said.
I chuckled, "Are you sure you can go home by yourself driving? After a break up?"
She laughed, "Yes, I can."
When I reached our driveway, I got my bag from the backseat. "I'll see you tomorrow at 3 in the afternoon, Poppy." Iris said. "Thank you." she said again.
I smiled at her, "You're welcome."
I got out of the car and walked to our porch, I turned around and waved at Iris before she drove off. When I went inside nobody was home, I went upstairs and brushed my teeth before going to bed.
I woke up to mom shaking my body, "Poppy, honey. Wake up."
I opened my eyes and saw that there was already sun shining on my legs, "Good morning, mom. What's up?"
She handed me a paper bag, " Iris told us that the theme for this year's party is 80's."
"Mom, you didn't have to buy me anything." I said. "We're tight on money and I understand that."
"This is the first party that you're going to. You've always skipped the parties back then." She said. "It's not something grand."
"Mom, Thank you." I said. " You shouldn't have." I hugged her.
"I'm sorry about the night with Noah."
"It's alright, Mom. He's my date tonight." I said.
"Really?"
I nodded at her, "Yes, is there something wrong with that?"
"No, honey! There's nothing wrong with that! It just surprised me." She said and then kissed my forehead. "I'll see you tonight, alright?"
"Thanks again, Mom." I said before she reached for the door.
"You're welcome, honey," She said smiling and closed the door.
I opened the paper bag and it contained a black dress with short sleeves with small white polka dots and a red bandana. I smiled and tried it on excitedly, it fit me just right. The dress was the right fit for me, it wasn't too tight but it wasn't too loose. The dress ends two inches above my knee, "It's beautiful, sweetie." Mom said.
I turned around and saw that she was leaning on the doorway of my door, "Mom, knock next time please?"
"Alright, sorry." She said, " Honey, you look so radiant and beautiful!"
I smiled at Mom and then a blinding flash greeted my eyeballs. "Look at that beautiful angel!" Dad exclaimed smiling at me while holding his phone.
I smiled at him, I hugged both of them. "I love you both but I'm going to clean this dress first."
"And we're off to work." Dad said kissing my head. "See you tonight, kiddo."
I smiled at him and mom, "Take care, you guys." I said before I ran down to the Laundry room. I heard our car's engine start and after a few minutes it drove off. My phone rang I answered it, "Hello?"
