I gradually slowed down and I felt like my body could collapse any minute from now."What are you doing? Wake up, Hart." an annoying deep voice said.
"I'm awake." I said. "I'm not even sleeping."
I could feel my head ache again that I clenched my teeth so hard. It hurts so much! But nothing could beat how hurt I was when I learned that Noah cheated on me.
'Noah, that piece of trash.' I thought in my head.
I felt someone grab me by the arm and pulled me out of the track since I could feel the grass.
"I think I need to sleep-"
"No!" He exclaimed, "Don't sleep." He said after taking a breath in.
"Too late." I muttered as I feel myself slip away from reality.
I could hear soft murmurs, was I still in the field? I opened my eyes to see Caleb's annoying face and I punched him on the jaw, "Get off of me!" I yelled at him.
"She's quite a handful." A woman's voice said. I looked over to see a nurse.
"Oh, you don't know half of it." Caleb said sarcastically while he was rubbing his jaw.
"That's very surprising." I said sitting up. "Since you don't know anything about me."
"I actually know a lot about you." Caleb said. "That's why you're my girlfriend."
I felt like my eyes was going to pop out of their sockets for a moment there. I coughed, "Excuse me?"
"Don't you remember? I asked you last night." He said as his eyes expressed that I should go along. I rolled my eyes.
"Oh yeah, I forgot." I said cheekily, "Silly me, forgetting one of the most important nights in my life."
"Love, I think you're quite mistaken. It's the most important night of your life." He insisted. This boy is getting to my nerves but I won't let him- not anymore.
I was about to say something when Coach Franklin asked, "Hart, you're dating Caleb?"
I looked at her and then I felt Caleb's hand wrap around mine, "Yes we are, Coach Franklin." He said as he took my hand and kissed it.
"Such a power couple!" Coach Flynn said as he stood up from his seat. They were here the whole time?!
When Caleb let go of my hand I made sure that he looked at how I wiped my hand on my shirt. I could see his eyes roll, "What happened?" I asked.
"You over exerted yourself, Poppy." Coach Franklin said. "You pushed yourself too hard. I admire that, Hart. But please remember that your health means everything. You're one of the best on the team-"
"She's the best." Coach Flynn interrupted. " What your coach is saying is that you should take care of yourself."
I nod my head at them, "That means a lot to me coming from both of you." I said appreciating their kind words to me.
"Okay, Caleb. You can take her back to her dorm."
"No, Coach! It's fine- I'm fine, everybody's fine. I can go there by myself." I said trying to get down from the bed.
"Love, don't you worry about me. I can take you to your dorm room." Caleb said.
"No-"
"Oh, fresh love! " Coach Franklin squealed. "I hope that this lasts."
I smiled awkwardly at them, "I should get going." I said as I stood up and walked out of the clinic.
I speed-walked out of the building and into my dorm building. "How are you?" Jack asked grinning at me.
I was supposed to answer when Caleb walked in the lobby and looked straight at me, "There you are, love. I carried your bag for you, shall we go to your room?" He asked sweetly that I almost vomited in my mouth.
"Yes." I said having no other choice than to make a scene. We went to the elevator and I pressed 4, when the doors were closed shut I turned to look at him with a scowl on my face.
"What the heck are you up to?" I asked him. "Are you insane! Why are you acting like we're dating? and what do you want?"
He raised a brow and handed me my bag, "I'll talk to you in private." He said.
"Is this about you and Rachel?" I asked.
"Not really. Just wait until we get to your room." He said.
"No, you're not going in my room!" I said putting my foot down. "You can't control every situation, Caleb."
"You're actually lucky that you get to be known as my girlfriend." He said rolling his eyes.
I scoffed, "Have you seen yourself? I've seen much better." I said rolling my eyes.
"Oh, because Noah Jackson is better than me?"
"How did you-" I started but was soon cut off because we've already reached the 4th floor of the dorm.
"I know a lot of things, Poppy." He said. "Now, may I go to your room to talk to you in private?'"
"Fine, just because you asked nicely." I said as I brought out my key and unlocked my door. I opened the door and both of us got in with me leading the way, I turned on the lights and I saw him sit on my bed.
"Talk." I said as I dropped my bag.
"The nurse said that you need to eat sweets and drink a lot of water." He said throwing me a KitKat bar.
"Thanks." I muttered quietly as I opened the bar and took a bite.
"What was that?" Caleb asked me.
"Don't push your luck." I said and he rolled his eyes at me. " Now, tell me what you want."
"Nothing- at least not yet. I haven't thought about it." He said looking around my room.
"I don't owe you anything."
"You actually owe me. I brought you out of that field and brought you to the clinic and remember our conversation yesterday? I told you that I'd keep in touch."
My door slammed open and judging by that intake of breath I know who it is without looking-
"Oh my gosh, Poppy. I'm sorry that I came in at the wrong time!" Iris said guiltily. "And who is this fine piece of Daddy material that you got here?" She said raising a brow at me.
"The name is Caleb." He introduced himself extending his hand for a handshake. Iris gladly shook it, "My name is Iris, I'm Poppy's bestfriend."
"Nice to meet you, Iris. Poppy, I'll keep in touch." He said as he went for the door.
"Don't bother." I called out to him as he went out the door.
I looked back at Iris and she had her mouth open, "You told me that he wasn't Daddy!"
"He isn't." I said.
"He definitely is!"
"He definitely is annoying." I said getting a shirt and bra from my closet, I went to the bathroom and changed.
"I wouldn't mind him annoying me anytime of the day."
"Then tell him to annoy you so he could get out of my hair." I said as I put my dirty clothes in the laundry basket. " Can we please change the topic?"
"So, your birthday is coming up."
"Iris, it's months from now." I said as I got out of the bathroom.
"Yeah, after your first NCAA game." She said smiling. "I already have a gift for you."
"You shouldn't have, Iris." I said smiling at her. "But thank you."
"So, will you move in with me?" She asked.
I looked at my best friend and said, "Yes."
