"I'm not-I mean, it's nothing" Scott muttered. Wiping the tear away.

But the Stiles he knew would have not settled for that, the Stiles he still remembered would have wanted to know what was going on, wanted to comfort Scott, wanted to reassure him.

This Stiles just hesitated slightly, unsure what to do, then said shrugging his shoulders "Well...okay"

Then went back to packing.

Scott watched Stiles pack, that was it? But no...

That couldn't be it?!

And he couldn't stop himself from asking.

"Who...who was the Sheriff before you gave him those memories?"

Stiles said completely calm "He was much like he is now, just without me. His wife still died, same way, same place. She just didn't have me"

His wife still died.

Just the way Stiles said it felt so wrong to Scott's ears, to talk about Claudia like that, not even by name and a stranger.

It seemed so...easy for Stiles to do.

Scott said, trying to keep out the sadness out of his voice "Why me? Why the sheriff? Why chose us?"

Why change my life completely?

Why give us so much happiness, only to take it away?!

Stiles hesitated, for the first time something shadowed Stiles face. Guilt? Or was it sorrow? Or pity?

He didn't meet Scott's eyes as he zipped up the bag, packed and ready.

"You um...both looked lonely,-"

He looked up at Scott, for the first time suddenly looking wary, venerable.

His voice quiet and sincere.

"-Like me, you and Stilinski reminded me of myself"

Scott wasn't sure how to react to that, he just stared at him.

"I didn't have anyone, I was on an alien planet, alone. With no way to back to my home and I couldn't sleep, couldn't relax. Not even for a second because then I'd remember, then I'd think back to what happened"

"So you made yourself forget, not even thinking it through, not even thinking about the people you'd change, the lives you'd turn upside down" Scott said, it felt like dirt in his teeth and tongue.

"Everything that I had cared for was gone, you were just apes I didn't care about, that I could just lose myself in, become one myself, forget about my problems" Stiles murmured, eyes glazing over as he thought back, it felt like centuries but it had only been a couple of years?

Stiles sighed, straightening up with the suitcase.

"I'll do Stilinski on my way out, I can-"

"No"

Stiles frowned, confused "No?"

"Leave him, just give him memories that you've gone away to a summer camp or something. You took my best friend away, don't take the Sheriff's son away from him as well" Scott said, his voice breaking.

A realisation formed on Stiles face, he looked down at the ground. His expression twisting.

"I'm sorry, I-I didn't mean for this to happen."

Scott blinked, shocked at Stiles apology.

"We may not have been as close as you thought but you were still my friend. Those memories were fake but the last couple of years I've been with you, been with your pack weren't. Yeah I was a different person, but I was still me. If...that makes sense"

Scott frowned as he said hesitantly "I'm not sure"

"Well, we can sort this out later. I need that vortex manipulator. I need to find the Doctor, I'll see you soon"

Scott shook his head, still not believing this.

"What about the pack?!"

Surprise flashed through Stiles eyes as he stiffened slightly, looking suddenly shifty "oh...them, well-I mean-"

"Don't tell me they slipped your mind" Scott said through gritted teeth.

Stiles grimaced slightly as he said sheepishly "Little bit, yeah"

"Stiles!" Scott snapped.

"Well you can tell them I went to that summer camp and I'll be back soon?" Stiles said and turned away quickly with his suitcase, ready to walk out.

"You are not leaving without telling them this or in the least saying goodbye to them"

"How I do that another day?"

"Stiles!"

His shoulders sagged as he sighed, shaking his head "Its not going to be the same. I can't pretend to be someone I'm not, not anymore"

"Then don't pretend, tell them the truth" Scott pleaded.

Stiles said sarcastically and reluctantly crossing his arms, letting go of his suit case "And that's sure to go down well. Hi everyone, guess what everything you knew about me is a lie and I'm an alien!"

"You know I didn't mean like that" Scott huffed, knowing Stiles was making this purposely difficult.

Stiles had decided the best cause of action was to humour Scott for now and go along with it, he was only delaying the inventible by refusing, right?

"Well hot shot, how do you suggest I tell them then?"

Scott opened his mouth, thinking it through "Well...I think..."

I will be answering comments for my last chapter later on, thank you so much! I hope you enjoy the chapter and have a great day! Let me know what you think xx
