The Invasion of Port Sarim

Captain Roarkwin called for all available bodies to fend off some pirate invasion at Port Sarim.
At first I laughed, who'd want to attack Port Sarim?

When I arrived and surveyed the chaos, a part of me wanted to laugh again, another part of me felt bad for the port.

I asked Roarkwin why not just let the pirates take the inmates. It's not like they didn't deserve their fate because of the crimes they committed.
With a sullen look in his eyes, the captain said even these dregs on society didn't deserve the fate that awaited them as slaves.

I arrived at the jail. Many of the adventurers were busy reinforcing the jail or repairing damage. A fair number were working to make more cannonballs and gunpowder. A few more were having a little too much fun with the cannon.

The guards, myself, and two other adventurers headed off to the shore to meet the next wave of pirates head on. We made them pay for coming ashore. The skirmish lasted a few minutes, and I had to admit, the guards put up a lot better fight than most of the other guards I'd seen.
We repelled that wave. But there were no bodies. The Skulls must have had something like Rings of Life to get them back to their ship. Looks like we'd see them again soon ...
The other adventurers wanted to take the fight to Jed's ship, but his three gun crews were firing a continuous volley at the port and the shore. We probably wouldn't be able to get out into the water safely without getting fire upon.

Also, we had the prisoners to think of. The prisoners were criminals ... scum. Would it matter if they died in the fighting?  Either what the pirates could do them in ... or some accident during the fight, or at least something that looked like an accident.
I thought back to what Roarkwin said. I convinced the others that the captain probably had a plan to get them back. Plus, if the guards took this much effort to 'save' them, maybe they won't try to escape in the future.
