Eunice sighs and stares out the car window. They're three hours out of Orange and Eunice already misses her friends. Mordeci immediately decided to leave that night. Eunice had five minutes to tell her friends bye. Why did they have to leave so quickly?
Mordeci hears the sigh. "I know it's hard for you to leave your friends so quickly, but it is essential that we find the girl. A lot is at stake if the enemy catches her." "Why do you always call her 'the girl'? Won't you know her name?" Mordeci shakes his head. "I don't know her name, because the family that has her would call her something else. Even were she to have another name, she wouldn't answer to it." Eunice blows a stray lock of hair out of her eye. "Why am I even coming with you? You don't need me anymore." Mordeci pats her leg. "Oh, come on, Eunice. You are needed more than you know. You never know, you might be picked by God to accompany the girl as her protector after I'm gone." Eunice snorts and turns back to her window. "Can you stop mentioning Him to me, please? I don't want to hear what he has planned for me." "Eunice-" "I told you. I don't want to hear this." Mordeci sighs sadly and silently prays for her. If she doesn't listen, she's in danger. They arrive at Mudgee at midnight and rent a motel. The next morning, they get up and Mordeci and Eunice walk to the market to shop. They pass a young man and he stops. "Elsa? What are you doing here?" They turn to him. "Huh? Sorry, but you must have me mistaken for someone else." Mordeci holds up his hand. "Wait. Who's this 'Elsa'?" The young man reddens. "Oh, I'm so sorry. It's just that this girl looks exactly like a girl I knew." Mordeci pales. "Knew?" "Yeah. She was kidnapped yesterday." "Kidnapped?! Why didn't you tell the police?!" The young man holds up his hands and backs up. "Whoah, there. I did tell the police, but they didn't believe me. They wanted to hear it from a sensible adult." "What?!" Thunders Mordeci. He drags both Eunice and the man to his car and drives to the police station. He storms into the station and confronts the officer at the desk. "YOU IGNORED A PHONE CALL FROM THIS MAN ABOUT A KIDNAPPING?! WHAT KIND OF POLICE FORCE ARE YOU RUNNING HERE?!" The burly guy at the desk stands up. "And just who are you that you can burst in here and talk to me like that?" Mordeci flashes his badge. The man pales as he sees who he is. "I-I- I'm sorry about that. We'll get onto it straight away." Mordeci growls. "Never mind. I'll handle this case myself. Just stand by in case I need you." He spins around. He points to the young man. "You!" He jumps as if he's been stung. "Yes?" "Tell me everything you know about this girl! If you want her to be saved, tell us everything as quickly as possible!" "Yes, sir!" Starting from when he met Elsa two years ago in cadets, the young man tells them everything.
