"Aaaargh!" 13 year old Elsa Palinomai falls flat on her back once again. "How many times has Pal bucked you off this week, Elsa?" Asks her best friend, Aphrodite. Aphrodite Wes is 13 like Elsa with blue eyes and short sandy brown hair. Only she's a full two inches taller than Elsa. "Too much." Replies Elsa. Elsa has long, chocolate brown hair with natural blonde streaks in it, and brown eyes to go with it. She is small for her age, so people thought she ten or something.
It is a clear sunny Friday afternoon at Worlds End, and the girls are planning to do a full day of riding. That is, if Pal behaves.
"I don't know what is wrong with him. He was fine last week, but now he's just so- so uncontrollable. I don't know what happened." Says Elsa. "Maybe he's tired of how you look!" Aphrodite jokes. Elsa sighs. They often argue because Elsa is a tomboy, while Aphrodite cares more about looks. "Haha. You know my parents don't like crazy horses. If they find out, they'll make me get rid of Pal forever." Elsa says. "I don't want to do that no matter how much he acts up."
Together they ride back to the farm.
"Soooo, what's happening at youth today?" Asks Aphrodite. "It's so you think you can preach." Replies Elsa. "You'll probably do very good again. As usual."
"What's  that supposed to mean?" Retorts Aphrodite.
"Well no matter how hard I try, I'm always at the bottom." "Why?" Asks Aphrodite.
"Why? Why?! Because I'm terrible at everything! That's why! Especially preaching." "Calm down, Elsa. You're not terrible at everything. Remember what Max said?"
    Elsa shrugs.
Aphrodite continues "He said that God gave everyone has a gift, even if you don't know what it is yet. And you have a gift, remember that, please."
Elsa glares at Aphrodite. "How can you you say that when you've seen me try a variety of things and they never work?"
Aphrodite shrugs. Elsa was right, they've never seen her accomplish anything no matter how hard she tried.
They continue to ride back to the farm in silence.
When they get back, they cool the horses down and feed them. "Pal isn't eating right," says Elsa. "Pal usually digs straight into his food, but now he's just nuzzling it."
"Does he have colic?" Asks Aphrodite.
"No, he's not thrashing about as if he had colic." "Let's get the vet to look at him." So the girls head to the house.
It's a simple house that looks more like a shed than a house, but it's pretty homey inside.
"Hey, Mum! Can I call the vet please. Pal's acting weird." A woman with silver hair looks up from the book she's reading and frowns.
"Acting up, huh? He didn't hurt you, did he?"
Elsa sighs. "No, Mum, he didn't hurt me. He's just more jittery than usual." At her mum's nod, she rushes to the phone and calls the vet.

An hour later, the girls are standing in the barn with a lanky man with a thick brown mustache, called Tom Yen

An hour later, the girls are standing in the barn with a lanky man with a thick brown mustache, called Tom Yen. He scans Pal for any problems. "How did he act again?"
"He keeps on bucking me off, and just nuzzles his food."
Mr. Yen frowns. "Well, nothing's wrong with him. I'll do a blood test at the lab, and I'll let you know If anything pops up." The girls say bye to him and head back to the house.
"You want to go on a hike instead?" Asks Aphrodite.
    "Sure. Why not?"
So the girls pack some snacks and water, then headed into the woods.
While the girls chat, they go to explore the property where they couldn't go on horses.
While their chatting, Elsa suddenly feels like someone was watching her. She looks to her left and finds herself staring into the blackest eyes she's ever seen. She gasps and stumbles. She looks back. The man's gone.
"Elsa!" Exclaims Aphrodite. "Are you alright?"
Elsa doesn't answer. She just stares at that spot. Finally, she looks up, and says. "I don't know what I saw, but you probably wouldn't believe me." When she looked into those eyes, Elsa saw pure evil.
