I had just kissed Annabeth goodbye for the night, laughter was still echoing from all the other campers in the dining hall and the amphitheater. She had to turn in early, Annabeth stayed up still four a.m. to work on her summer assignments, and the rigorous schedule that is a counselor left no time for rest. So, I walked her to her cabin, kissed her goodnight, and headed towards my own cabin.

It was a low ceiling, long walled, and soft blue brick cabin that rested on the grass ten yards from the edge of the beach. Dark ocean green stucco roofing and pillar details on the corners leads to the brown wooden door. There wasn't much furniture inside. Two sets of bunk-beds against the side walls by the windows, one side had the blankets and sheets all properly placed and neat, only the piles and piles of books left by a certain daughter of Athena were the only thing out of the ordinary. The other side had one neat bed on the top, untouched in months but still used, and a messy one on the bottom, used last night.

I had been using that bunk since my first year at camp. The minotaur horn still hung on the wall along with the shield Tyson made for me. A little dresser lay at the foot of my bed, all of my drawers and my clothes were open, exposed to anyone who dared entered my cabin. Candy wrappers and crumbs littered the floor and a trashcan filled with empty ziplock bags that once held blue cookies.

My cabin was a mess.

Bending down under my bunk, I reached my arm under to search for my little iPod. It was nothing special. A 2003 white iPod that the Stolls somehow managed to swipe from the camp store a year ago. At first, I was a bit suspicious of the little piece of technology that I was given, Chiron had said that any kind of tech was a beacon to monsters, but it was from the camp store; surely the iPod was demigod safe, right? It was. I had never gotten attacked once while using it, and it became my go to place for music.

Attaching it to the small speaker I swiped from the closing RadioShack the same year I got the iPod, I pressed play on my playlist. The music started to play and I did a little dance when the beat had picked up. I don't speak French, not any of it, but I did try to say something when the music blared from the tiny speaker. I probably butchered the language with my screaming that is my singing.

I looked out the window at the back of the cabin. The sun was halfway down the horizon, which meant that Apollo was done on this side of the world and was beginning his way to Europe. Or so I thought.

"Wow, lil' cuz, I didn't know you could clean so well," Apollo looked at himself through the freshly polished mirror on top of the dresser. His bleach blonde hair was split down the middle and cropped short, but still long. A white t-shirt that had the Hi-Chew gum logo on it and dark blue jeans. "Or that you could sing!"

"First of all, thank you I worked really hard to clean that area," I swept the dirt to the corner of the room. "Second, I can't sing cause I suck at it. And third, why are you here?"

"I'm going to announce that there's gonna be a talent show tomorrow!" Apollo smiled. "There hasn't been one in the camp for decades, so I'm going to bring it back! But I want it to be fair to those who want to sing, so here, write your name down and put it in this hat. If you sign it, I won't bother you till the show."

In his hands materialized a little slip of paper, a blue pen, and a bright yellow top hat. Looking from the paper to his face, I sighed and sat on the bed. "When is the talent show gonna happen?"

"If everything goes according to plan, maybe a week from today." He extended his reach with the paper closer to me, his smile wavering a bit.

"Do I have to sign it?"

"Yes, now sign it."

"But what if I don't want to?"

"I'll write your name myself."

"If I get called do I have to perform?"

"Yes. Now sign it!"

"Okay, but-"

"Sign the paper!" Apollo yelled and threw the pen and now crumpled piece of paper at me.

"Fine," I smoothed the paper as much as I could and slowly wrote my name on the paper before giving it back to Apollo. He smiled evilly and flashed away in a bright yellow light. I decided not to continue to clean but instead groan in annoyance from the sun god's idea of fun. Other than the mental cursing of knowing that I would be called no matter what he pulled, how was he able to do this? The ancient law of them not able to see their kids is still in place and yet somehow Zeus gave the 'okie-dokie' for a talent show?

What's gonna happen at the talent show? How many people will be there? Will there be other acts or just singing? It would be pretty crappy if he announced this big show and only people that sing was allowed.

I swung my legs over the edge of the bed and walked to the window at the back of the cabin. The cool brass handles let me swing the glass open and let the sea breeze into the cabin. I could never get tired of this view, the moon's reflection on top of the ocean, it was calming. But it didn't get my mind off of what Apollo forced me to do, this is injustice! I demand a lawyer! I guess it wouldn't help anyway, the gods were obsolete, their word goes, but an inkling feeling in the very back of my head said they weren't.
