The next day people had started to begin construction for the stage. Piles of wood and metal beams were stacked by the arena. Apparently, Chiron had scheduled alternating training time for the camp while everything was being built. A third of the campers had morning construction, lunch, then training. Another third had training, lunch, then construction; and the last third, which was mostly little kids, helped only for parts of the day in fear they would hurt themselves. So, I took it upon myself to watch over them with the help of Piper and Leo from time to time, Jason comes to help with lunch and their actual training.
"C'mon, let go and see what the Athena cabin is working on, yeah?" I ask the group of kids around me who yelled happily. Some grabbed on to my hands or my clothes, others were running ahead or trying to catch up as we walked to the empty field that the stage was going to be built. "Hey, Athena cabin!"
The mass of blonds and brunettes looked and smiled at us, but the only one I was looking at was hunched over a calculator typing furiously into it, the drafts of blueprints surrounded her. "Wise girl, take the pen out of your mouth before you digest ink."
She smiled and took the pen out of her mouth and ran her fingers in her hair. "Hey, seaweed brain. How's babysitting doing ya?"
"It's great training for when Estelle gets this old, but there are times where they annoy me to death," I drop the daughter of Hermes off my back and watched as she scrambled off to play with her siblings and friends. "But how's the stage going? Everything turning out the way you want?"
"Kind of," Annabeth shuffled through the papers. "I have a good blueprint that I like, but it's going to take longer than a week, but the ones that fit the time slot, don't really look good."
"What if we turn the amphitheater into the stage?" I ask rocking the tired son of Hypnos in my lap. "It already has lots of seats and if we need more we can just build benches to place them in front. Also, there's the large field between the lake and amphitheater for the stage."
Annabeth stopped looking at the table and then to me, then stood up onto the table to look across the lake at the amphitheater. "Of course! Why didn't I think of that before!" She jumped off the table and gave me a kiss. "I was trying to incorporate the seats because we didn't order them so I had thought we had to build them, but the amphitheater already has seats so we just need to build the stage! Thank you, Percy!" She ran off to tell her siblings and the few Hephaestus kids that were there to help.
It wasn't long after Annabeth came to an epiphany from my advice and began construction immediately, the days following it soon fell into a new routine that was welcomed by the camp. I could tell that many people liked the change in their daily lives now, working on something that wasn't their usual classes. Everyone seemed happier and got more excited the closer we got. And the amphitheater was transformed into a legit arena stage. Lights and speakers, the seats and stands looked the same, just more of them, but at the very back was a table for three people. Sings taped to the backs of the chairs read 'judges', huh, I didn't know there were gonna be judges.
Next to the stage was a medium-sized tent that had stairs leading up to the stage. This is probably going to be where we would say during the show. Curiosity got the best of me and I walked inside. It looked super cool. Reminded of the caravans that actors have behind the scenes in movies, couches big enough to fit about five and a few arms chairs were pushed against the fabric wall on the left. On the right there was a large table and a mini-fridge, empty bowls decorated the fancy table cloth and nothing but ice cubes were in the mini-fridge. In the middle between the two sections was an assortment of different interments for those of us who chose to play something. Guitars, violins, ukuleles, a piano, and some other instruments I didn't pay attention to.
