Mary's Point of View

That day I'd finished packing my bags and I had already sent an email to the professor that had told me I was top opportunity to go.

He sent me an email back saying that this would be an incredible experience for me and he gave me the list of people that were coming with me.

I was rooming with a girl named Millie Jennings who was apparently studying the same thing as me but I hadn't met her before.

The other two people coming were guys, also studying the same thing as us. One was called Spencer James and the other was Tyler Edwards.

The plane would be leaving five o'clock on Friday night and I was ready to go.

I'd written a note for each of the boys as I'd tell Sara, Tara, Danielle and Eleanor face to face when we all went out together that morning.

It was good that I would have to leave loud apartment around two in the afternoon because he and all the other boys were at the studio all day Friday.

The day came and in the morning before the boys left, I started crying.

I went to each of their doors, tears on my face.

"I just wanted to say," I said through my tears to Zayn who was the first person I went to. "That you're an amazing guy Zayn. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise."

"Em," he hugged me. "What's wrong?" he had a worried look on his face.

"Nothing's wrong," I smiled, wiping away my tears and forcing a smile. "Just remember that I'm always here for you and I love you, alright? And take care of Tara for me," I winked at the end.

"What- I don't-" he spluttered but I knew that he really liked her.

"Urgh fine, we all know I can't lie to you."

I gave him one more hug, a hug goodbye for a year and as he went back inside his apartment, I knocked on Liam's door.

Niall was probably the hardest because I knew that he'd be so disappointed when he found out the truth.

I made my way back to mine and Lou's apartment, stopping at Harry's door on the way.

I shook my head and went back to my room, we still hadn't talked since he punched Zayn.

I hadn't told him the truth about my feelings in the letter and I didn't plan on ever doing so.

This year in America was a once in a life time opportunity and I'd been picked for it.

It was my chance to how that I was more than just Louis Tomlinson's little sister. I could now prove to everyone that I'm Mary Tomlinson, the girl who was smart enough to become a doctor even though everyone in her life doubted she'd every be able too and always told her that she would never make it.

When Louis left, I didn't give him my short speech because he would be able to tell that something was up.

I gave him a kiss on the cheek but hugged him extra tight.

"Em," he laughed. "You're squeezing me to death, I'm not going off to war."

I laughed along with him but the sound came out strangled as I heard Harry knock on the door.

"Lou!" he shouted. "The car is here, we're leaving!"

I opened the door for him and walked into my room without saying a word but I felt him follow me.

"Em?" he asked.

"What do you want Harry?" I turned and glared. Even though Zayn had forgiven him, I hadn't.
