"So tell me, Deb, what's Tate's deal? What's he here for," I tried to ask casually during my session with Deb. "Why do you what to know? You don't like him do you," she asked. "If I did?" "I hope you don't, he's not the kind of guy you'd want to be involved with. Nonetheless, I can't disclose any information about my patients; it's confidential." I hated when she got all serious and doctory. "That bad huh," I mumbled. "Something like that."
I found him the next day at school leaning against his car and smoking a cigarette. "Hey, Winnie!" I rolled my eyes stopped anyway. "You know it's Gwynn, right" I replied. "Yeah but I like Winnie better. Smoke," he asked as he offered me his cigarette. "Never in my life," I answered with my hand up. "Maybe that's why you're so uptight. If I had the strong stuff, I bet that would mellow you right out." Like the day I first met him, I waited for him to laugh at his dark joke, but his laugh still never came. "No thanks, I don't smoke or drink, or do any of that stuff." This time he did laugh. "How pure of you. There's something I find appealing about that," he said as he stepped closer to me; I gulped. "Is there something you find appealing about me?" I felt as if I would melt right then in the parking lot. He leaned in and I prepared myself for what could happen next, but at the last second he blew a cloud of suffocating smoke in my face. I coughed and doubled over as the nasty smoke filled my lungs. Tate, apparently found my distress funny, and laughed at me while I struggled for air. "We should hang out more, you can be my little project. By the time I'm done with you, you'll probably be just as damaged as me." And with that, he put out his cigarette and walked to class.
*David's POV*
I watched as Gwynn and the new kid basically eye raped each other from my spot across the parking lot. "What's your problem? You've been staring at the new kid and that weird girl the whole time," Danny said, getting my attention. "I wasn't staring at them, I was just looking at the sky." I ignored his response, returning back to watching them. The boy leaned in towards Gwynn, who looked all too happy to be getting that kind of attention. I scoffed at them, and headed to class before I had to suffer through another moment of their PDA.
"Hey," Gwynn said as I unwillingly slid into my seat next to her in art. "Hi," I said monotonously. "What's wrong with you," she asked. "So you and the new kid?" "You mean Tate? What about us," she asked. Did she seriously think I wouldn't see them? "I know there's something going on between you guys." "Uhh, I mean he's attractive in a James Dean kinda way, but there's nothing really there, he's an asshole." I looked at her with disgust. "Then why did you kiss him in the parking lot this morning? I saw you so don't try to lie," I whispered angrily. "You obviously didn't see everything that happened. He leaned in to blow cigarette smoke in my face," she explained. "Really," I say sarcastically. "Really, you can still smell the smoke on my hair," she said as she held up her hair. "Why do you care anyway? You broke up with m-" Before she could finish her sentence, Ms. Vullo interrupted. "Ms. Wilson and Mr. Ronaldo, if you conversation is so important, then you can finish it in detention, where you'll be cleaning my room!"
*Gwynn's POV*
"Why do you care who I date anyway? you dumped me," I said to David as I rinsed off used paintbrushes. "I didn't dump you! I Just found out the ghost of my dead twin that I didn't even know about was haunting my girlfriend," he responded. "Sorry for being freaked out!" I threw the brush down and looked at him. "You don't think I was freaked out? He ruined my life, and the one person I thought could help me through it shut me out." "I just need time! You couldn't give me time?" "What do you think I'm doing," I yelled. "No, you're giving your time to that psycho!" "You know nothing about him!" "And you do?"
"Am I interrupting something?"
