"Where do we stand now," I asked David as we leaned on his car waiting for first period. "What do you mean?" I sighed. "Well we aren't dating, but there's still something there right," I clarified. "I think so, but with all that's happening I think it's better if we just put that on hold while we figure this out." I looked down at my converse as I processed his answer. He was right, but it still hurt coming from him. I was being rejected. "Okay." Thankfully the bell rang and I could escape quickly to first period.
"Class we have a new student," I absently listened while my teacher introduced someone. "This is Tate Sanders." At the sound of his name my eyes jerked up, and there he was. White v-neck, black jeans, black converse, and a grey cardigan thrown over it; there he was. He smirked when he saw me and winked one of his blue-grey eyes. I couldn't lie to myself, there was something about him that made my thighs clench and my lip quiver. He sat in the one empty desk in the room that happened to be right beside mine. "Hey, schizo girl, Jen right," he whispered. "It's Gwynn," I corrected. "Whatever."
"Oh, your first bad boy," my new friend Vanessa said as I told her the story of my encounter with Tate. She and I became after she decided to sit by me and give the crazy new girl a chance. "I don't even think he's into me, he couldn't remember my name," I replied. "He probably did it on purpose to make it look like he didn't care, but he totally does." I shrugged, Vanessa knew more about boys than me, so I left it alone. "If he asks you out say no the first time, make him ask again," she said. "Why would I do that," I asked with confusion. "Cause you don't wanna seem too available!" "I don't?" She groaned. "Of course not! Guys like a challenge." "He probably won't ask anyway," I mumbled. "He will, trust me"
I was walking toward my bike when someone called out to me. "Hey, you!" I turned to see the smirking gave of Tate. "Yeah?" He caught and started walking with me. "Come hang out with me," he said and it wasn't a question. I remembered Vanessa's advice before I answered. "We just met, and I don't go anywhere with strangers. Plus, I have plans already," I lied smoothly. "With a guy? C'mon, I'm smarter than that. Remember where we met, you and I both know there can't be many asking you out. Luckily, I know a flower among weeds when I see one," he said. I was speechless. He was right. I should've been upset that he would say something like that, but he was right. "I just can't today." And with that I turned to get my bike.
"Next time, Winnie, next time."
