CASSIE TURNED HER lamp off, and pulled the covers over her body securely. She closed her eyes, and tried thinking of calm thoughts and things that might put her to sleep. A soft tick sound prevented her from falling out of consciousness though. Turning her lamp on, she glanced towards the window in question.
Sliding out of bed, she walked over to the window and pulled it open, peering out afterwards. The breeze blew into her bedroom, blowing her hair away from her face as she faced a figure on her lawn holding a handful of miniature rocks.
"Cas!" Justin called out.
"Justin, what the hell are you doing? It's ten pm," Cassie yelled right back.
"I just— I have a question, and you have to say yes," he replied unsteadily.
The winter formal.
Cassie didn't want to ask what it was. She knew what it was. He asked her last year and he wants to take her again this year. It wasn't a surprise, but she didn't know how she would respond.
"Go with me to the winter formal!" He shouted carelessly, "I want to make it up to you. It'll be a night to remember, I promise."
Cassie was speechless, but she wasn't surprised, "I— I don't know."
"I'll stay here all night if I have to," he promised.
"That's dedication," she started to grin.
Justin nodded in agreement, and a smile beamed off his face as the streetlight bounced off his back. He bit his lip, and outstretched his arms in expectancy, "so what do you say?"
Cassie was hesitant, and reluctant to say yes, but she knew he wouldn't leave and it was just one night. And if possible, he might be able to win her heart back.
"Okay."
In victory, his smile turned bigger than ever before and with a wave he disappeared into the darkness, but not before shouting his last words: "I love you, Cassie James!"
