CASSIE STOOD ON the porch of Alex's house. It was a nice two story in a fairly sized neighborhood. She had only been at his house a couple times but all held good memories and his family liked her. She gave a good knock and waited patiently.

The door opened a minute later, and there stood Alex himself. He gave her a blank kind of surprised look which didn't faze her.

"Can I come in?" Cassie asked politely.

"I guess so," Alex replied and opened the door wider.

She walked through the threshold of the house and noticed nothing had changed since her last visit. The furniture hadn't changed position and the photographs were the same minus new ones added on the walls.

Alex led her to the kitchen and leaned back against the counter with his arms crossed. He seemed to be waiting for her to speak.

"How are you?" Cassie asked with a small smile.

"Can you just get on with what you came here for?" He said rather annoyed with her company.

"Lately all I've heard is how I put people before myself and that's not the case because otherwise I would've been there for you. I failed to see that you were hurting, and I am so sorry Alex," Cassie apologized in her small rant.

She didn't mean to put all these words on him and blurt everything out but it had to be said. It was now or never and she knew she needed to build her relationships again. This time even stronger than before. If she really wanted to be known as someone who put others before herself, she needed to actually do it.

"You shoved me aside, you didn't let me be there for you and in return you weren't there for me. How can we have a friendship?" Alex demanded slightly calm, (he had a right to be upset).

"I know and I promise I will be there for you here on out, anything you need to talk about it, I'm here. Pushing you away was a mistake, one I didn't realize I made but I'm admitting to it. I want to make up for it Alex, but only if you let me," she said sorrowfully, while also meaning her words.

If anything was true about Cassie, it was the things she said. She never said them without purpose or meaning to prove her worth to others. Her relationships with people and keeping them was most important to her. She hated letting people down, especially not even acknowledging it.

"I know I'm jumping into this fast, but—"

Alex cut her off, "cut yourself some slack. You got the tapes before I did and it distracted you. I've thought about it and I realized it wasn't all your fault," he admitted, "the fact that you tried to apologize again means you care about gaining my friendship back."

"I really do, Alec."

He let out a small smile at his nickname. When they had met Cassie thought he said his name was Alec. She had thought it was his name for at least a month and never did she know until another month later when Courtney told her otherwise. She apologized many for calling him something else for two months.

"I can give it another shot," Alex said, shoving his hands in his pockets.

Cassie launched forward and hugged him tight. His arms were trapped under her embrace but he smiled by her forehead. She was like a little sister to him, and at this point he only thought of her absence as a fight they had and now overcame. Alex didn't have many friends, but he didn't need many when he had Cassie. Because when they were friends, she made sure he was never alone. He felt comforted to know that that skill of hers would be coming back when he needed it the most.
