Chapter Fifteen

Louis

For the first time since the accident, I slept comfortably, in my own bed.

I'm awake when Lottie knocks softly on my open door.

“Breakfast” she says, smiling at me. “Mum made pancakes.”

“I'll be down in a minute” I say.

She grins, and disappears from the doorway.

I take my time getting out of bed and dressed, and then I slowly hear downstairs. I can hear my sisters making noise in the kitchen.

It sounds normal.

It sounds like home.

“Hey, Lou” Mum says, when I walk in. “Here, have some pancakes.” She hands me a plate of three, and I take it to the table and sit down next to Lottie. She's just finishing hers, as it's a school day for them. Fizz and Daisy and Phoebe are already finished and busy packing their backpacks for school. I don't miss that.

“Flynn wants to see you today” Mum tells me, as I start into my pancakes. “She's invited you to her house at ten.”

“Awesome” I mumble through a bite of pancake. Lottie takes her plate over to the sink, gives me a quick side hug, and grabs her backpack.

“Have a good day!” Mum calls, as my sisters parade out of the house.

And then it's empty, and much quieter.

I don't know how I feel about that.

I eat the last bite of my pancakes and then take my plate to the sink.

“I'm gonna go watch TV” I tell Mum. She nods.

“Have fun.”

“Thanks” I say, before retreating to the living room with the TV remote.

TV is safe.

It hasn't changed.

“Are you gonna drink tonight?” Flynn asks me.

“Hell yeah” I say. “You?”

She sighs

“I dunno” she says. “Stan, d'you wanna drive?”

“No” he says rather unhappily. “ But it is my turn, so I suppose I will. You lovebirds go and get smashed.”
