Cole was acting weird. There was no way to sugar coat it or ignore it; he was acting odd. I knew it had something to do with Valentine’s Day, knowing that the holiday meant more to him than it did to me, but there had to be something else. I tried to figure out what was up his sleeve or what his whole problem was, but he was a lost cause. His whole obsession with Valentine’s Day was blocking my thoughts and tuning me out of Riley’s rant about Jason. I sat on the futon, watching her pace across the room, waving her hands back and forth and complaining about Jason once again. I wasn’t sure what was worse, the fact that I wasn’t listening to her, or the fact that this had become a daily thing.
Every time his name would come up, she would promise that she was over him. She would say that he was just a douche or some silly little boy, but she cared about him more than anything did, and sadly, he didn’t give two shits about her. I thought that she was really done with him from the last time, but I guess she tried to give him another chance and it wasn’t going so well.
“Are you even listening to me?” She snapped, taking me out of my trance. I blinked and looked at her, wondering how she even put up with me.
“Did you tell him how you feel?” I asked. Once the words fell from my mouth she looked at me as if I had grown three heads and said I was an alien.
“Why the hell would I do that?”
“Maybe if he knew what you felt he would start treating you better. At least if he didn’t feel the same way he might stop acting like a douche.”
“He’d probably laugh at me.” She sighed, sitting down on the bed.
“Well, he doesn’t exactly sound nice…”
“Jess!”
“I’m sorry, Riley, I am! Maybe if you would actually ignore him he might actually care about you. He probably expects you to come running back to him every five minutes and that’s why he acts like he doesn’t care.” I said honestly.
“You’re probably right.” Riley sighed.
“I usually am.” I grinned.
“No more Jason.” She nodded.
“You always say that.”
“I mean it this time.”
“You always say that too.”
“For real.”
“Riley-“
“I mean it, Jess. It’s going to be difficult but I can’t keep doing this to myself.” She told me seriously.
“I hope that he ends up being a good guy.” I told her truthfully. She ran her hands through her hair and took a deep sigh. I watched as a million thoughts flashed through her head and she moves herself into a comfortable position on the bed.
“Me too, Jess.”

“Jerry, I would have never expected you to be the more dominate guy in the relationship.” I admitted as I sat down across from Jerry at a small table in one of the dining halls. He grinned madly up at me and took a drink of his water.
