Each day Gabriel would prepare a home cooked meal for himself in his dingy little upstate New York apartment. After being diagnosed with a genetic disorder affecting his digestive system his life had gone from eating whatever he desired to strict rules on his diet. He had three surgeries to help strengthen his stomach and intestines, but was now unable to walk and instead motored around in a scooter. Because of these repercussions, he fell for a short time into depression. Long, sad hours had been spent while a nurse busied herself preparing pathetic, tasteless meals for Gabriel. He eventually decided he had had enough, and decided to take control of his own life by firing the nurse, researching different diets, recipes, and nutritional facts, and budgeting his retirement money to afford the ingredients he needed to begin his new life. That life was cooking.
