ch. 31

> Ari's POV <
i continued to walk down the sidewalk at a quick pace.

acting as if i wasn't hurting, i wiped my tears and held my head high.

"ari!" someone yelled from behind me.

i recognized the voice and of course it was kevin.

i sped up my pace down the sidewalk; damn how long is this thing?

"ari you need to let me!-" he yelled but was cut off by the sound of a loud balloon pop.

it startled me horribly. i continued to walk faster down the sidewalk, but slowed down in realization that i couldn't hear kevs footsteps running after me, or him even yelling my name.

i slowly turned around.

kevin was no longer standing, but on the ground, collapsed.

i ran towards his direction as fast as i could.

"kev!" i yelled as i finally reached him. i got onto my knees, right by his side.

his eyes were closing, while the color of his skin started fading.

"kev, stay with me. please," i cried.

a pool of blood slowly started to grow under his arm.

"oh my god no, no!" i panicked immediately, reaching for my phone that was in my back pocket.

i dialed 911. my hands were shaking, but i was able to dial somehow.

once they finally picked up, i said all i could.

"hi, um, my friend just got.. shot.. and i need help right away," i let out a soft cry, "he's losing blood."

i didn't know where we were. i didn't know this place so they said they would be able to track my location down, thank god.

"go," kev whispered.

"no," i replied softly, "i'm not leaving you."

"you, you have... you have to," he struggled to get the words out of his mouth.

"i'm not leaving you kevin. i can't."

"i can't," he paused, "i can't see the stars."

"no, no. please don't do this to me kev," i cried, placing my hands on his face gently,
"i need you to stay with me."

a single tear rolled down his cheek, "i can't-"

"shhh, don't... don't talk." tears streamed down my face. i was hurt to see him hurt.

i sat there and held his hand in mine. thoughts ran through my mind of what i could've done to stop this from happening.

then suddenly a flashback played through my head.

"i forgot to say thank you." kevin said, breaking the short, yet awkward silence between us.

"oh yeah, you're welcome," i smiled, "i don't like to see you hurt."

"i wouldn't like to see you hurt either, baby." he said, removing a strand of hair from my face.

that was the first time we kissed.

the first time i felt a spark with him.

the first time i thought i loved him,
but now i know i love him.

at that time i was able to help take care of his injury, but now... i was clueless of what to do.

i then heard a siren getting louder and louder, meaning it was getting closer and closer. in a few seconds, i was able to see flashing lights. i stood up slowly and waved to them, calling them over.

the ambulance pulled up to the side of the sidewalk, and a paramedic hopped out of the van.

"get him on a stretcher," the woman said, to a few other men with her, "and be gentle."

they did what was instructed and lifted him up carefully, placing him onto the stretcher. they rolled him into the back of the van as i followed behind.

"um, is he gonna be okay?" i asked the woman as she closed the doors. i didn't know what else to say.

"we'll do our best," she nodded at me, "you should be there, at the hospital, just in case."

she ran over to the drivers side of the van as they drove away.

i turned around slowly, seeing a bunch of teenagers running out of shannon's house.

devin, daniel, emily and jailene ran over to me.

"what happened?" devin said catching his breath, "we thought the cops came."

"i-its," i stuttered, "its kevin."

"what about him?" devin questioned as his eyes grew wider.

"he," i crossed my arms, "he got shot."
tears continued to slowly fall down my face.

"how?!" daniel budged in.

"i don't know!"

he stood quietly.

"i'm sorry, it's just," i sighed, "i really don't know how this happened."

jailene rushed over to my side, and rubbed my back.

"lets go to the hospital," jailene said.

"he needs you."
