> Ari's POV <
"w-what?" i was in so much shock.

"yeah," j'nai exhaled, "she was shot. i guess she was going somewhere. but yeah, they found her body in the middle of the road."

"oh my god," i said, covering mouth with my fingers, "i'm so sorry."

"so am i," she softly smiled, "but thanks. i'll see you around."

j'nai walked passed me and out of the bathroom.

no wonder the students outside were quieter than usual.

i rushed out of the bathroom and jogged my way over to emily's locker. they were all there, the whole crew, standing silently.

i slowly approached and slipped my hand into kevin's.

he looked over at me and tightened his grip.

"i can't believe it," emily said, "too young."

we all nodded in agreement as we stood there in silence.

i looked over at jailene, who was currently hugging devin, then looked over at daniel who awkwardly stood next to emily.

"hello students, this is your principal, mr edwards. i would like to schedule an assembly during the first period of the day. thank you." the loud speaker echoed through the hallway.

"see you guys later," devin said as he ran off.

i looked up at kevin, turning my body to face him.

he looked down at me and put his hands on the sides of my face. he bit his lip and wrapped his arms around me, setting his head on my shoulder.

i put my arms around him and stood on my tip-toes since he was so tall.

"how are you?" i whispered.

"i'm fine, just scared. ya know?" he replied.

i slightly nodded, "i get it. i am too."

he pulled away from the hug and held both of my hands, "be careful, aight?"

"yeah i will, you do the same."

it was first period of the day by now, and all the students were rushing into the gym where the assembly would be.

kevin was holding onto my hand, making sure he wouldn't lose me.

we continued to make our way through the crowds of students, until we finally reached a spot on the bleachers.

we sat down; he still held onto my hand.

i pulled my hand out of his grip and rested my head on his shoulder.

he kissed the top of my head and placed his hand on my thigh.

"hey," jailene said as she sight on my left.

"hey J," i smiled.

"what do you think we're doing here?" she asked.
