I walked down the grey sidewalk, looking at the falling leaves around me. As the wind blew through the trees, brittle leaves danced in the air and gently floated to the ground. I wrapped my arms tighter around myself, attempting to keep warm for the next few minutes until I reached my house.
School had only ended five minutes ago, but I was already halfway home, excited to one) see my puppy and two) start on my science project.
Yes, I know, I shouldn't be teeming with excitement over a project. But learning was just so fascinating.
After five minutes I arrived at home and unlocked the door with my key. As I entered, I could hear tiny paws scratching against the wood as Biscuit ran towards me. His ears flopped wildly around him, his excitement unbelievably adorable.
"Hi baby!" I exclaimed in a high pitched voice, picking the squishy creature into my arms.
His pudgy body jiggled as he started licking my face. I giggled and walked into the kitchen and placed him down. I refilled his food and water, making sure to put ice cubes in the bowl became he loved them.
I lived in a pretty decent house, one that had an extra room upstairs which I claimed as my own. I put a desk and bookshelf in it, making sure to put plenty of Doctor Who, The Walking Dead, Melanie Martinez, Supernatural, Billie Eilish, etc posters up. But what I had the most of was posters of the galaxies. I absolutely loved the idea of space and all of the different planets, galaxies, and unknown things out there.
Coincidentally, my project was pretty stereotypical; make a model of the solar system and write a 1x5 for each planet. In no time, I finished the writing part of the assignment. I reached down to grab the supplies when suddenly a loud thud shook the house. Posters fell off of the wall and floated like the autumn leaves outside to the ground. I heard Biscuit barking like a maniac and scratching at the back door.
A louder thud shook the house, making me trip on my feet as I walked to the door. I steadied myself on one of the bookshelves
Was an earthquake happening?
I made it out of the door and almost down the stairs before another quake rumbled through the house. My foot slipped and toppled my way down the rest of the stairs.
Biscuit scampered over and cocked his head to the side, confused as to why I was on the ground. I wiggled my toes, fingers, ankles, wrists... Nothing broken. I picked myself off the ground, groaning from newfound pain in my foot. The baby basset hound ran to the back door and pawed at the glass, as if to show me what was causing the quakes.
