Chapter 4
I was sitting on my bed, amused, as I watched Ani attempt to drag Willow into my room. She had planned a ‘girl’s weekend’ before the hard work and training began.
“Willow!” She moaned, “I’ll be your best friend!” She tried a puppy dog face.
Willow rolled her eyes, “You’re already my best friend, Ani.”
“Exactly!” Ani appeared proud of herself, “Which means you are here-by obligated to partake in any and all social events set out by the previously mentioned ‘BFF’. This includes sleepovers, parties, movie marathons, and double dates.”
I raised an eyebrow at her lawyer-talk, as she gasped loudly, her smile becoming impossibly brighter, “Double dates! We haven’t been on any because we agreed not to flaunt our mates in front of Ben but now all three of us have mates! We need to go on a triple date!”
I glared at her comment about me lacking a mate, but it was good to see Ani happy and bubbly again, so I let it slip. “Actually,” I said as I thought it through, “that’s not a bad idea- Jason and Nixon haven’t actually had a chance to get to know our little gang. Jeremy is probably all alone in his room right now because Willow isn’t there to keep him company. We seriously need to get this happening.”
Willow snorted, “Fine. But I get to pick where we go on the date.”
“So it’s agreed!” Ani cheered.
“I suppose so.”
“But before that,” I reminded them, “Our first order of business is to meddle with a certain lion-shifter’s love life.”
Willow frowned, “I’m not letting you two video me giving Jeremy another fake pregnancy-scare again. Last time was catastrophic. I still smell like baby wipes.”
Ani and I both burst into fits of giggles at the memory, “That’s not what I mean,” I said after I could breathe again, “Georg has gotten himself a date with Macy. I think we need to make sure he doesn’t traumatise the poor woman.”
“Oh, good.” Willow looked relieved, “Then I think we need to get all disguised-up.”
I grinned feeling a shift take over as my hair turned auburn and my face became more angular, “How do I look?” I asked, wiggling my eyebrows.
“Just like a seafood restaurant waitress.” Ani smirked.
“Table for 2, please.” I heard a voice behind me.
I spun around, flashing my brightest smile at the man and woman standing on the other side of the counter. The man seemed a little shocked when he saw my smile, but it was completely justifiable- I had shifted so that I was missing my front teeth.
“Shertainly!” My lack of teeth caused a lisp as I saw little droplets of spit fly out of my mouth. I may have gone a little overboard with my disguise.
“Right this way, sir and ma’am.” Ani smiled politely, her newly changed blonde hair in a braid over her shoulder as she led them to a table and placed their menus in front of them.
Willow was mopping the same spot over by the entrance, her brown hair in a ponytail as she pushed along the janitor’s cart.
We had bribed the various workers to let us take over their shifts for the night, and were waiting impatiently for Georg and Macy to turn up.
