Chapter 10
“Oh my god, he is so totally into you!” Willow gushed at Ani, batting her eyelashes.
It was 3 o’clock in the afternoon and we were standing in the conference room with the door securely closed behind us so that Willow could share this ‘super important news’ with us. Willow was lying on top of the table making snow angels without the snow, and Ani sat with her head in her hands with a look of disbelief permanently plastered to her face. My back was against the wall as I leaned back, arms crossed, watching them interact. I was not in the mood to partake in the conversation so I just observed.
Ani pulled a mock-sick face and stuck out her tongue, “He is not; he’s just really sweet. But he’s like that to everyone!” She defended.
“Nuh-uh, he’s a nice guy to everyone, sure, but around you he’s so obviously smitten! I mean, the other day when you fell down the stairs? He went and got you an ice pack and everything, the rest of us just stood there and laughed. That’s a man with a crush.” Willow smirked.
“Ugh- no- he was just- UGH.” Ani threw her hands up in the air and screeched, “TRISTAN IS NOT INTO ME!”
“Yes he is,”
“No he’s not,”
“Yes he-”
A knock on the door interrupted their banter, and when I turned around and opened it, I was faced with Santa Beard, who had a concerned look on his face, “Um, Alpha Benina, I’ve gotten some complaints that-”
“Oh god, were they really so loud that the pack could hear them outside of this room? I thought it was sound proofed?” I glared at Ani and Willow, assuming that he was here with noise complaints regarding their argument.
“Oh no, nothing like that,” I turned back and Santa was blushing and I realised he might’ve taken that the wrong way. “Well, long story short, this woman approached me this morning and made a complaint that her daughter is trying form a bond with a companion, and it seems that she’s not the only one. There are a bunch of teenagers who are, um, attempting to follow your example and form the bond. Somehow the process of the bonding has gotten out and they’re all making attempts at bonding with things like guinea pigs and bugs. One tried to take on a bear.”
“Tried?” I raised an eyebrow.
“Yes, tried. He got his ass kicked and is currently in the infirmary.” He frowned.
“What? Why haven’t I been informed of this sooner? They’re making a huge decision and putting themselves at risk! Oh god this isn’t good.” I could feel my stress levels peaking.
“Well, they’ve called a meeting. Everyone is gathering by the stage.”
I sighed, “Can you go and get Jason? I’ll meet you both out there.”
He nodded and waddled off to find my mate. I turned back to Ani and Willow and sighed again, “C’mon, we should all be out there.” Then I perked up, “While we are there, I can make an announcement!” I grinned.
Suddenly excited, I practically skipped down the hall and towards the stage. I didn’t pass anyone on the way, and when I made it outside it became clear that they were all waiting for me. “Oops,” I whispered.
I climbed the steps up to the stage, having a sense of déjà vu as I remembered that day over a year ago when I was invited up here and told that I was the new Alpha. Back then I didn’t even know what that meant, and now I was running a pack and preparing for a war.
