Chapter 2

“Oh my god, Jason!” I groaned, “It’s easy, seriously!”

“No it’s not…” he mumbled.

I huffed in annoyance and said, “Ok, let’s try again. Just… do what you can.”

He stepped back and took up a fighters’ stance. I nodded approvingly and took a few steps back, before mimicking his posture. “Ready?” I asked.

He nodded and held out his fists. I rolled my eyes, before leaping toward him, aiming for his throat. He ducked underneath me, and I hit the ground with a roll. I spun back to face him, and he grinned.

“Good.” I commented.

I quickly flicked my eyes behind him and nodded slightly, towards a hiding Willow. She silently prowled toward him from behind. To distract him, I leapt forward and sent a flurry of kicks and punches, most of which he deflected or dodged.

I smiled encouragingly as I went for a roundhouse kick to his head. He grabbed my leg and flipped me onto my stomach on the ground. I gasped for breath for a few seconds, as he had winded me. “Wow, you’re getting good at this!” I proudly stated.

I rolled myself over and preoccupied myself with stretching as Willow tackled him from behind. I rolled out of the way and crossed my legs, watching calmly as Willow attacked him.

We’d been working on defence all morning, and Jason was slowly improving. We agreed that he should be trained before the rest of the pack, so he could help out with training (and so that he didn’t look incompetent in front of both packs).

Jason’s pack had arrived, and when combined with my pack, there were roughly 500 members staying in our pack house. Living spaces were a little tight, so we had a lot of tents set up for some families. When we combined the two packs officially, we’d either have to split them between the two pack houses, or expand.

I was happy to begin construction on our pack lands to make another mansion for the extras, but Jason wanted them to split between the two pack houses. I was trying to convince him that we could keep his land as an expansion of my pack and that it was better that we kept the pack together, rather than split apart by several miles.

“I think that’s enough for now.” I ordered, as Jason began to turn a little purple.

Willow halted her attack and stepped back, doing some stretches to warm down. Jason leaned over on his knees and took deep breaths. “Wow.” He stated.

I grinned, “A bit harder than you expected, right?”

“A bit? That was a lot harder than I expected. And you want me to do that in front of the packs? I’m not very good yet…”

I grinned, “That’s why it’s great to have you there in demonstrations- you’ll give a perfect example over the next few days of mistakes that we can fix. You’ll show them what you do, and we’ll tell you what you’re doing wrong.”

He glared at that, “I’m there so you can show them that I’m a bad fighter?”

“Yep,” I grinned, “the only reason we’ve been training you this morning is to spare you a little pride.”

He huffed, crossing his arms as I walked over to him. Willow excused herself with a wink as I leant up to lightly kiss him. He wrapped his arms around me and held me against him. He pulled away and looked down at me before leaning down and whispering in my ear, “Duck.”
