Today was the big day. I couldn't believe it. It all seemed to happen way sooner than expected. Tonight was going to be one of the biggest and most important nights of my life. I was going to be introduced as the HR manager of the Cole Empire. I had never expected to reach success this easily. I have to admit that luck had played a great role here.

But tonight was also the night when Diana would leave the Cole Empire and retire. Everyone was undoubtedly going to miss her. I could see it on everyone's face as I entered Rosaline hall. Most of the people working in the office had decided to help with the party. Which is why no famous event manager was hired. We wanted it to be a wonderful memory for Diana by giving it a personal touch. I had also volunteered to help along with Melanie.

Speaking of the latter, something had changed between us. We were not friends yet, but I could sense that we were not far from it; unlike Sasha, who still seems to hate my guts for some unfathomable reasons. Diana had always had my back ever since my first day here.

Thus, I couldn't imagine what would happen after her departure. I had also realised that Sasha was not fond of my growing closeness with Melanie. I considered myself vulnerable in front of her and I know that I will never be able to fight back in case she ever attacks me. You never know what's going on in her mind!

"Ma'am, would you prefer the white roses or the calla lilies on this side?" The beautiful florist whose name I forgot asked me. She was a young brunette who owned a flower enterprise. She was super sweet and had all kinds of beautiful flowers.

"I-"

"The calla lilies would be better, don't you think so?" And once again Melanie came to my rescue and saved me from the embarrassment of not having any knowledge about flowers. In my defense, flowers doesn't have much importance in my daily life.

"Good choice ma'am," the brunette gushed some more after I merely nodded before leaving us to set up the flower decoration.

"Thank you so much, Mel. You've saved me once again from getting embarrassed!" The first time had been just around an hour ago, when one of the catering people asked me whether to make a lily the centrepiece or a lotus for the cake to be used tonight. And she had absolutely no idea what to answer to that. I was about to stammer an answer when Mel butted in and chose the lily centrepiece.

"And again, it was nothing Eve." She replied laughingly. "I swear, you are undoubtedly the only girl in the world who has utterly no interest in flowers. Your husband will not have to worry about buying you flowers every now and then."

"That's so mean." I was offended. "I do appreciate receiving flowers once in a while. I like admiring them and just looking at their beauty is soothing for me." I was even pouting now.

Mel threw her head back and laughed wholeheartedly. "You're such a child sometimes. Come on. We have so many preparations left to do. The décor has still not been completed. Let's hope that they haven't messed with the colours."

The colour theme for tonight has been a blend of white, silver and pink; all of Diana's favourite colours.

The décor is almost set. Only the flower arrangement was left. We decided to leave to the decorators and went in search of a dress for Mel to wear tonight.

"I hope you do know what you're looking for." I said as soon as we entered a glamorous boutique name Cornelia. It was filled with beautiful dresses of shape, colour and design. They surely looked expensive though.

"Of course! I saw this gorgeous looking dress here while I was passing by the other day. I knew right then that I had to have it!" Said Mel when an attendant approached us.
