♛ Brady Manning ♛
The first day of school is always nerve racking, but when you're new and going into senior year when everyone is already in their tight friendship groups, which they have been in since freshman year, nobody wants new people, and your nerves seem to skyrocket and become one hundred times worse.
It's not like I've ever had trouble making friends before, in fact, I find it really easy, it's just that being a newbie in senior year is like being adopted into a close nit family who already have teenage kids, it's hard to fit in and feel welcomed.
I didn't know what to expect from La Vernia High School, all I knew was that they had less than half the students that Abraham Lincoln High School had. 860 students may not seem small to them but to me, coming from a school with around 2,800 students, it was a really small number.
I guess it's better though, because with less students means less in classes, less people to get to know, less people to pick on me because I'm new and less people to judge me.
I made sure, last night, to set my alarm for 6 am to make sure that I wasn't late for school. It usually didn't bother me, but since it's my first day, I wanted to set a good impression, because first impressions are the most important.
I had completed my usual morning routine which consisted of; face wash, applying light makeup; black mascara which brought out the brown in my eyes, liquid eyeliner and a light powder. I braided my brown hair in to a fish tail, and got dressed into some jean shorts, black low converse and a Last Kings t-shirt as it was still warm in Texas. I went downstairs around 6.30 to find my mom cooking her usual chocolate croissant and pancake breakfast, which in my dad and I's opinion was to die for.
"Morning honey, breakfast is on the table. Do you want a cup of hot chocolate?" Mom asked.
"Thanks mom and yeah sure, just don't make it too hot. Has dad gone to work already?"
"I won't do. And yes he had a 6 am start because it's his first day. Speaking of first days, are you nervous to start your new school?"
I hadn't really thought about that until my mom mentioned it. I don't know if I was nervous or not, although I did feel butterflies which was probably one of the reasons I feel sick this morning. Starting my senior year at a new school is a nerve racking thing, but I'm sure I'll survive and hopefully most people will be nice.
Over the last three weeks that I had lived here I had seen many teenagers, my age, hanging out at the park or in the local restaurants. But I hadn't made many friends, as I had mainly been helping around the house or going shopping with my mom and travelling around in my car trying to familiarise myself with the city. But I had to send it to the repair shop this week, so it could have a full examination. I hope that I fit in and make friends as I want my senior year to be memorable.
Realising I'd zoned out into my own little dreamland, I snapped back to see my mom looking at me expecting me to answer her question. I replied with a shrug of the shoulders.
"I haven't really thought about it. I mean, I guess I am nervous but I'm sure I'll be fine after the first day, when I get to know the school and meet a few people."
"You'll be fine, you're a beautiful, and confident young women, nothing will go wrong for you. I'll pick you up at 3.15 when you finish, as we have to go to the discount store, because your father wants some more of them root beers we got there last week."
Sure I love my dad, but he really does have an addiction to root beer. In Brooklyn there was a convenience store down the street from us that used to sell my dad's favourite root beer. He thought he wouldn't be able to drink anymore because he didn't know if they would sell it around here, but he found it at the local discount store and has been making sure he stocks up on it ever since.
