Sometimes Clover wondered if Jack had feelings. He was always to himself, never bothering to show emotion. She almost admired Jack for that, because she was almost out of control.

They were stopped at a pool of crystal clear water, much clearer than anything they've ever drank, and Clover was breaking down.

Her best friend, the person who she could always have a laugh with, the guy who would tell her when she had gone too far, or not far enough. The man who's misfortune was an aid to her, his honesty helped her endure life. He was now gone.

Clover was never one to grieve, but the pain ate away at her from the inside out, burning her, shutting her down. It was worse now, now that she was gone. The guilt added on to the pain, her friend just died, and she left. Just ran, like nothing even happened. It was a horrible thing to even begin to think about.

What was she turning into?

The tears dripped down slowly and painfully, it was as if her body was saving them for later. Everything seemed to end for Clover. Escaping was the worst idea in the universe at the moment.

Well, only at that moment.

The pool of water shimmered a bit, and displayed the worried face of Stig. He was in a room filled with buttons and gadgets, and mumbling things about pinpointing locations.

It was like a window into Amara, a place that was far behind them. The picture flickered for a bit, and Clover worried if it should have even been there. Stig's attention turned towards her. "Ah, seems to be working, these darn technical difficulties will be the end of me." Stig spoke.

Clover reached her head over the pool, "Stig?" She sniffed, "I thought you said we wouldn't see you any more!"

"Now now, we haven't any time for questions, we need to get to the point, real fast," Stig started, "we had a small malfunction in the plan, Charlie's gone, not that you don't know. His body's now ashes, just like yours should have been. Really we do grieve for you, but you will have to move on, got that? Good. Anyways, I've gotten some bad news, not horrible news, just a small... Delay, let's just call it. They don't know you're gone quite yet, but they are certainly on to it. Charlie has been a distraction for them, really it has, but I'm afraid that it might take a while for me to convince them that you're dead. You'll get your abilities back, I promise, we just... Need some time. Now if you excuse me, I have some business to attend to."

The water turned clear again and neither Clover nor Jack said a word, not that they were even able to. Clover's mouth bobbed up and down, like she wanted to express an idea, but it was as if there was nothing to express. Was this how Jack felt? Clover shook her head. There was no time for wondering just yet. There was food to be eaten, and a long road ahead.
