Clover sat on the muddy ground outside of their hut, staring up into the pool of green blocking the setting sun. It was their first night in the forest, and a beautiful one also.

"I suppose it's time for another one way conversation innit?" Clover smiled.

Jack shrugged, his eyes elsewhere. Clover followed them to see a lone light that seemed to be floating in the air. It glowed a pale blue and it's aura made her feel at home. It floated closer, and closer, and then jutted back repeatedly, teasing her. As soon as it came into sight it looked to be some sort of bug.

"What a cute little thing that is!" She smiled, reaching her hand out, only to see the being flutter away. Jack smiled at the sight as well, repeating Clovers actions, but only to draw his hand back, wincing in pain.

"Jack? What'd you manage to d-oh my!" His hand was red and blistering, like it was cooked in boiling water.

Clover pulled a leaf of a nearby tree, and wrapped it around Jack's hand. By this time the shock had worn off and he was silently crying. They stayed there for a bit, looking into each others eyes, reading their emotions, until Jack lost his attention again.

His eyes were looking everywhere, almost jutting out if his face, alarming Clover in more ways than one. Was there some odd side effect? Was he in more pain? Did his hand go numb, or did it just fall right off?

Jack's mouth twitched ever so slightly, and then stopped. It moved once more, more defined and intentional. It was if he was mouthing something, as if-

"Watch out!" A roar erupted from Jacks mouth, carrying miles through the forest, if it was even possible. It was hoarse and silky at the same time. It wasn't too deep, but not to high either. Clover could listen to that voice all day.

She shook the thoughts off, she had more important things to think about.

Clover looked behind her to see a swarm, coming towards them at a fast pace. It was the blue lights, the ones that burned Jack, who by now was already up on his feet. There were thousands of them, all with the same motive, to kill them. They ran inside the hut, unsure if it was the right thing to do, but neither cared, there were almost no other options.

Clover could hear them pounding against the hut in between their pants. They were trying to burn them to a crisp, and now that Clover thought back on it, it was quite obvious if there was one, there would be more, and all of them were out to get them.

She collapsed on her mattress, and stared at the wooden ceiling that was being pelted with carnivorous bugs of some sort. Sweat dripped from every single pore in her body, a body that was so in shock to even make more than two coherent thoughts at a time. A strange concept for Clover, whose mind multi-tasked like crazy.

The two thoughts that crossed Clovers mind though, were ones that seemed to take up all the space. One was that Jack had just spoken for the first time in over ten years, something that stunned her, but at the same time gave her hope. The second, if those were bugs, then they were prey, every prey needs a predator, and Clover couldn't even begin to imagine the predator.
